Role Overview

As the founding Mechanical Design Engineer, you will own the conception, CAD modeling, and industrialization of Optimus-style humanoid components. You’ll translate early concepts into robust, production-ready designs, guide prototype builds, and partner with suppliers to ramp tooling and volume manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Concept & CAD Modeling: Develop detailed 3D part and assembly models (plastics, sheet-metal, die-cast, composites) in CATIA or equivalent.
  • Prototype Development: Drive rapid prototyping: oversee 3D printing, CNC machining, and initial fit-check assemblies.
  • Engineering Analysis: Perform tolerance studies, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and kinematic simulations to validate stiffness, strength, and lifetime requirements.
  • 2D Documentation: Create accurate production drawings with GD&T annotations and critical inspection call-outs.
  • Design for Manufacturing: Conduct DFM reviews with contract manufacturers and tooling partners; refine designs for cost, cycle time, and quality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work alongside electrical, firmware, and validation teams to integrate mechanical systems with sensors, wiring harnesses, and PCBA enclosures.
  • Test Planning & Validation: Define mechanical test protocols, analyze failure modes, and iterate designs based on test data and reliability metrics.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical design for high-complexity electromechanical products.
  • Expert proficiency in CATIA V5/V6; strong ability to produce both detailed parts and multibody assemblies.
  • Proven track record with plastic injection molding, sheet-metal fabrication, and die-casting processes.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T and the creation of 2D engineering drawings for manufacturing and QA.
  • Experience running FEA simulations (stress, thermal, modal) and interpreting results to inform design decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills to drive alignment with suppliers, cross-disciplinary engineers, and leadership.
Preferred Skills
  • Scripting or automation experience in Python to streamline CAD tasks and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB for system-level modeling and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Prior involvement in robotics or wearable systems where mechanical tolerances and ergonomics are critical.
  • Knowledge of plastics engineering: material selection, shrinkage factors, and mechanical property optimization.
  • Hands-on background with rapid-iteration prototyping tools (3D printers, laser cutters, CNC mills).

Key Responsibilities
  • Problem identification and troubleshooting a variety of difficult mechanical problems with limited supervision
  • Define, coordinate, perform, and document engineering test reports with limited supervision
  • Develop, design, or modify mechanical engineering layouts/schematics and/or detailed drawings/specifications of difficult scope
  • Perform engineering analysis of difficult scope with limited supervision
  • Technically lead and/or execute engineering projects, including development of key suppliers. Generate mechanical product specifications.
  • May be responsible for the design, development and implementation of custom mechanical tooling, fixturing, and associated processes to enable the handling, assembly and/or disassembly of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies throughout the product life cycle. Establishes standards across all operational processes
  • Specify and review engineering documentation
  • Implements concepts for variety of complex product issues and mechanical solutions
Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Prior relevant experiences as a Mechanical Engineer preferably in semiconductor-related industry
  • Skilled in 3D modelling and Unigraphics - NX
