The International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) is a defence and security think tank that has a deep understanding of regional geopolitics and geo-economics in a global context. Its international researchers provide best-in-class independent and impartial analysis and provide insights on strategic challenges and priorities to governments and the private sector. It is expert at bringing together national leaders and senior policymakers in foreign policy, defence and security; promoting dialogue; and facilitating effective and influential bilateral and multilateral consultations.

The IISS, headquartered in London and with international offices in Bahrain, Germany, Singapore, and the United States, is seeking to appoint a Research Analyst to contribute to the work of the Cyber Power and Future Conflict (CPFC) Programme. While the CPFC programme is based in Singapore, its research is global. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals in the early stages of a career in the field of cyber policy and international relations.

The role reports to the Senior Fellow for Cyber Power and Future Conflict, but the successful candidate will work jointly with colleagues in the CPFC team and in other IISS offices.

Responsibilities
  • Undertaking detailed research into projects led by the CPFC Research Fellows.
  • Producing original, authoritative research on relevant topics for IISS publications, including developing smaller designated research projects independently.
  • Collection and assessment of data for IISS publications and CPFC databases.
  • Supporting corporate engagements including IISS member briefings, consultancy reports, and programme administration.
Requirements
  • Expertise in international cyber policy and the way in which governments, their national security agencies and their armed forces plan for and use cyber capabilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Data collection and analysis.
  • Events management.
  • Fully competent in written and spoken English, and preferably one other language.
  • Preferably a postgraduate degree in related studies.
Remuneration

The successful candidate would ideally be able to start by 1 August 2025. This position is for a fixed-term of 2 years and may be considered for renewal at the end of the contract. The salaries offered will be competitive and will be accompanied by benefits including health and life insurance.

The Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI), together with the Earth Observatory of Singapore, is looking for a Research Fellow to make an important contribution to the research project: “Climate Transformation Program (CTP): Cross Cutting Theme 1 – Sustainable Societies” funded by the MOE Tier 3C Grant. CTP aims to develop, inspire, and accelerate knowledge-based solutions and educate future leaders to establish the stable climate and environment necessary for resilient, just, and sustainable Southeast Asian societies.

CTP will generate knowledge and innovation across disciplines including climate and Earth science, ecology, materials science, artificial intelligence, humanities, social sciences and the arts, finance, health, and engineering. It will also translate state-of-the-art scientific results into real world solutions for Singapore, and it will transfer these solutions to Southeast Asia (SEA) and beyond.

As part of this programme, “Cross-cutting theme 1: Sustainable Societies”, this theme will leverage climate research in communication, public opinion and psychology, and artistic impressions to shape public attitudes and behaviours towards climate change issues. The Research Fellow will work directly with the PI of the Sustainable Societies theme, Professor Shirley Ho, based in the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information at NTU.


Key Responsibilities:

Engage in conducting literature searches and manuscript preparation.

Track online public discourses using sentiment analysis.

Conduct statistical analyses using sentiment analysis.

Contribute to research publications and presentations.

Write progress report and final research report.

Engage in the dissemination of the results of the research with the support of and under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

Carry out administrative work associated with the program of research as necessary.

Job Requirements:

PhD degree in communication, psychology, sociology, social science, information, or a computer science related discipline.

Strong foundation in content and sentiment analysis, as well as analytical skills (e.g., SPSS, MPLUS, or R).

Team player in a project setting, also with ability to work independently in a multi-cultural team environment.

Must demonstrate initiative and good interpersonal communication skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Lab Technician is expected to support and assist the science department in the management of resources and in the preparation of science experiments in the science laboratories. The Lab Technician will be expected to specifically develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Secondary science teachers, learners, suppliers, and external agencies.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Keeping an up-to-date inventory of equipment and resources and regularly updating it.
  2. Organising ordering of equipment and maintaining adequate stocks of basic items.
  3. Keeping records of recipes, successful experiments, etc., for future use cross-indexed to each grade level.
  4. Preparing apparatus and reagents and worksheets in advance of classes, trialing and checking working of reactions, etc., before lessons.
  5. Ensuring laboratories are safe, hygienic, and secure.
  6. Checking gas and fire equipment regularly and keeping written record.
  7. Preparing and trying out experiments for practical examinations and being available to assist during such exams.
  8. Setting up and maintaining a spillages kit in each lab and a basic first aid kit in prep lab.
  9. Setting out and clearing up equipment promptly and safely before the start and upon completion of lessons.
  10. Cleaning equipment thoroughly, including washing glassware and checking its safe operation, organising maintenance and repair of equipment, and making sure spares are available (batteries, bulbs, etc.).
  11. Dating chemicals upon arrival and ensuring proper storage. Checking stock regularly both in labs and prep room and restocking and organising reorder as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  1. Higher degree or recognized professional qualification (preferred).
  2. Evidence of continued relevant professional development.
  3. Experience in working in a laboratory setting (at least 2 years).
  4. Experience in an international school environment (preferred).
  5. Possess reasonable IT skills and knowledge, for example, Microsoft (MS) Applications such as Excel and Word.
  6. Inclusive, resilient, flexible, and adaptable.
  7. High standards and expectations.
  8. Communicate effectively in Standard English both orally and in writing.
