NLCS (Singapore) is looking for an enthusiastic, highly dependable and committed Whole School Learning Support Teaching Assistant to start in December 2025, reporting to the Head of Individual Needs. The Individual Needs (IN) Department has a whole school (PreKG to Grade 12) responsibility to provide support to students and remove barriers to learning.

Knowledge and Understanding

  • Possess the specialist learning support knowledge for the role to develop resources and strategies to enable student learning
  • Have standard English and Maths competencies
  • Understand SEN definitions and strategies

Student Support

  • Collaborate as part of the Learning Support team in the implementation of strategies for students on the Individual Needs register
  • Contribute to the production and review of Individual Needs Plans for students
  • Assist identified students in bridging knowledge gaps
  • In-class support with individuals/groups of children
  • Work with small groups of children out of class to provide intervention support, for example in: english, maths, planning and fine motor skills
  • Plan group work sessions such as guided reading in conjunction with the Head of Individual Needs
  • Support students on local trips as directed by the Head of Individual Needs.
  • Investigate and source resources that will support learning support planning
  • Participate in departmental meetings and professional development that impacts on student's learning
  • Track the progress of individuals and groups of students and the effectiveness of intervention using intervention monitoring sheets
  • Contribute to the departmental development plan
  • Contribute to the termly Governor's review

Communication

  • Communicate with colleagues, and parents as appropriate, maintaining confidentiality and working with sensitivity
  • Attending and contributing to meetings of a professional nature
  • Regular meetings with Head of Individual Needs to monitor and evaluate provision, intervention and practice
  • Contribute to providing feedback to students

General

  • Maintain the department stationary stocks in all teaching areas and Learning Support Office
  • Assist in the management of data, maintaining department registers
  • Maintenance of the departments' photocopying and laminating requirements, together with filing and notice board updates
  • Contribute to the development and training of relevant support staff
  • Complete the appraisal Target and Review Tracker in line with school policy
  • Work in areas of the school in other job-related tasks as circumstances require

  • Support students on the Learning Support register in class during special days, events, sports days, concerts, performances and during off site visits, as appropriate

Professional Qualifications /Experience

QUALIFICATIONS

Must-Haves:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach and mentor learners effectively.
  • A disciplined, process-oriented approach with the maturity to represent the BCG brand and a willingness to continually reskill.
  • Excellent proficiency in English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using various tech tools such as Zoom, Miro, and Trello, and the ability to quickly learn new digital tools.
  • Competency in Excel and PowerPoint.

In partnership with government agencies, the National University of Singapore has successfully pioneered the pilot phase of the Communities & Engagement (C&E) Pillar that provides meaningful service-learning for students and transformational impact for partners. Now, in collaboration with Department of Social Work, the Provost Office intends to expand this programme and hire several additional course instructors. Their roles and responsibilities include:

  • To deliver and drive outcomes for students through the preparation of course materials; conduct of tutorials, workshops and/or consultations; and assessment of the quality of students' academic and service work
  • To deliver and drive outcomes for society through the management and coordination of volunteer service programmes with government agencies and community partners, including placement and induction training of students
  • To build, sustain and strengthen relationships with agencies and community partners
  • To supervise and support students throughout the period of their service-learning

Qualifications

As C&E education is relatively new in Singapore, we do not expect many applicants to have significant prior expertise. Training will be provided. Instead, we seek enthusiastic persons who have a good degree from a reputable university, and who have interest to mentor youths at the university level in volunteer service work; confidence to engage stakeholders; methodical mind to plan, coordinate and organize activities; and personal effectiveness in communication and conflict resolution. The successful candidate should have a passion for advancing community engagement work with youths. Prior experience in any of the following areas are deemed advantages:

  • Teaching and/or engaging youths over a period of at least a few years
  • Project or programme management
  • Community engagement or own volunteer service work
