• Perform histological testing encompassing sample accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and re-embedding of tissue specimens.

• Duties include working in pre-analytical, analytical, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation, technical validation and inventory management.
• Operates and maintains sophisticated instruments and equipment used in the laboratory.
• Able to properly set up, calibrate, maintain, operate and shut down the analytical instruments.
• Perform all procedures in accordance with laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure compliance with all requirements of the Laboratory Safety Manual.

• Molecular diagnostics - study and techniques used to identify and analyse nucleic acids such as DNA, RNA or proteins at a molecular level for diagnosis of a particular disease or condition.
• Clinical biochemistry - analysis of body fluids such as blood and urine to diagnose, treat and monitor diseases by interpreting the level of different chemicals in samples.
• Haematology - the study of blood cells and their formation in health and disease, and investigating coagulation factors and disorders.
• Immunology - the study of the body's immune systems, functions and disorders and its analysis.
• Serology - the study of blood serum for diagnostic identification of antibodies.
• Microbiology - culturing and identifying micro-organisms and determining antibiotic susceptibility.

• BSc in Biomedical Science, Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years' of clinical laboratory experience preferred

• Performing high complexity testing according to established SOPs for molecular diagnostic techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, genotyping, and next generation sequencing.
• Correctly receiving, requisitioning, processing, and ensuring proper identification of specimens and chain of custody.
• Troubleshooting and resolving technical problems as needed.
• Participating in technical and clinical verification and validation studies.
• Participating in internal and external quality assurance programs.
• Monitoring inventory and lab supplies in assigned areas.
• Maintaining strict quality standards according to laboratory accreditation and licensing requirements, e.g. CAP, CLIA, HCSA.
• Performing, recording and interpreting results of quality control procedures and taking corrective action where necessary

• At least a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Science, Life Sciences or its equivalent.

• Willingness to undergo training, including MT(ASCP) certification and California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license exam.
• Usual working hours would be 8.30 am-6.30 pm / 8.30am-5.30pm and half-days on Sat (subject to shift allocations).

SUMMARY

· Analysis & Reporting. Perform precise specimen analysis and report results accurately, following established procedures; recognize deviation from expected results, analyze and correct problems using scientific principles; complete QC Action Logs, preventative maintenance logs and pending lists daily.

· Training & Development. Assist with training new personnel on responsibilities in the laboratory; evaluate progress of training; make recommendations for training methods and content.

· Evaluation. Continuously assess work processes and make suggestions for improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs and solve operational problems; monitor departmental reagent inventories.

• Carry out antibody screening, blood grouping, and crossmatching to guarantee the secure transfusion of blood and blood products.
• Handle blood products with care, making sure you label and store things like plasma, platelets, and red blood cells correctly.
• In order to ensure accurate and trustworthy test findings, perform calibration and quality control processes on laboratory equipment.
• Validate and verify the procedures used for blood bank testing.
• Examine and reconcile variations in compatibility or blood type findings.
• Assemble blood components for transfusions and make sure all paperwork is in order.

Requirement

• Min. a Degree in Biotechnology/ Biomedical Science.
• At least 2 years of experience.
