You will be responsible to support in leading Electrical Engineering practises and DC development, reporting directly to the Chief Development and Engineering Officer. You will be a key member assisting in standardisation of DC design and built across the region. As the Associate Director, Electrical Engineering, you will work with a team of SME with the below job requirement

Make an Impact by

  • A strong people manager who has experience in running various Projects, overseeing multiple functions and experience leading a team of engineering specialise.
  • Perform as Electrical engineer subject matter expert to work with various stakeholders and consultants during concept design, detailed design, procurement, bidding, SAT, delivery, and installation on site. Identify and resolve issues raised by the cross-functional teams.
  • Update and maintain the internal design specifications, drawings, and standards in accordance with the latest configurations and including all 'lessons learned' in relation to all equipment. Perform design and equipment submittal review for new Data Centers.
  • Liaise with internal business units and external customers for technical requirement to translate into executable plan for implementation by consultant and/or contractor.
  • Knowledgeable in Building Management System/DCIM, able to understand system architect and point schedule. Experience in handling BMS/DCIM enhancement project.
  • Evaluate the design& construction and operation of mission-critical facilities and associated MEP components.
  • To Participate and Review Data Center MEP Design and other necessary disciplines for new data center builds and data hall fitouts.
  • To continually find ways to collaborate and break new ground to enhance MEP design to meet future needs. Develop innovative solutions.
  • Own the conceptual design for existing data center upgrades and design-solutions, which add capacity, improve availability, increase efficiency and sustainability.
  • Support the DC operation team to become a Subject Matter Expert and understand how to overcome design limitations and risks. Partner with DC operations to troubleshoot and resolve electrical system issues.
  • Provide technical guidance for system upgrades, retrofits, and lifecycle management.
  • Conduct site inspections, system audits, and performance evaluations.
  • Interface with internal stakeholders to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
  • Liaise and assist Operation team to identify/understand Electrical System issues and provide solutions.
  • Perform technical design reviews and proposal for data centre first of kind systems and equipment.
  • Review data centre commissioning scripts to ensure they accurately test all modes of operations. Witness key commissioning tests on site.
  • Conduct site inspection and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, mechanical systems audits, and start-up as needed.
  • Continually maintain positive and collaborative working relations with partner teams, vendors, teammates, and internal customers.
  • Lead, mentor and support a highly effective team of passionate project managers, engineering managers and energy managers fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Enable a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, and excellence with continuously elevating the quality and calibre of our engineering and DC development organization.
  • Involvement in green and brown field project such as site selection, set up project team involving internal headcount and bring onboard consultant team, oversee design and tender award, construction, etc.
  • Shortlist and engage best in class consultant team (i.e. Architect, M&E, C&S, Energy, etc.) to assist in design development and tender preparation including preparation of project cost budget estimate.
  • Lead new engineering technology and construction methodology research and development project that aim to continuously improving our electrical system design, DC energy and water efficiency, build efficiency, operation productivity and sustainability by lowering PUE, WUE and carbon emission.
  • Lead your team to conduct various engineering studies that includes technical assessment, site feasibilities studies, new technology and construction methodology research, preparation of business case for board presentation and seek approval.
  • Other relevant duties to the role and responsibilities may be assigned to you from time to time for supporting the business growth of our organization
  • Collaborate with the core team to understand, develop and update the data centre electrical designs, starting from basis of design (BOD), feasibility study, concept and detailed design development to issue for constructions (IFC) documents, for new data centre project buildouts and major infrastructure upgrades to all levels of testing and commissioning works.
  • Assist in preparing project budgets, cost estimates, and procurement strategies.
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and participate in tender exercise.
  • Collaborate with internal business units, operations, and external customers to translate technical requirements into executable plans.
  • Interface with cross-functional teams to resolve design and implementation challenges.
  • Promote engineering standards and consistency across regional projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., IEEE, IEC, NFPA, ISO).
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to electrical systems, safety, and operational continuity.

Skills for Success

  • Min. bachelor's degree in relevant studies such as Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 12 years of working experience and 5 years people management
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in data centre related works involving DC development and engineering works.
  • Knowledge of large-scale mission critical facility's Mechanical infrastructure systems.
  • Experience with fast-track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects.
  • Strong Electrical background with ability to lead design requirement, identify SPOF, oversee engineering fault analysis and ability to solve complex engineering problems such as power, etc.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong oral, written communication and presentation skills in English.
  • Possess positive working attitude, ability to work independently and team players.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers and consultants.
  • Willingness to travel to other Asia Pacific region.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, codes, standards, and commissioning practices.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to become part of a world class engineering team to lead the Electrical design of our Data Centers across our rapidly expanding Asia Pacific (APAC) portfolio.

Key job responsibilities
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the following:
- Lead Data center electrical designs in collaboration with other disciplines to create a coordinated construction document set
- Participate in site selection reviews and work with local utilities to understand and define site utility requirements
- Critical Data Center equipment design including site-wide MV infrastructure, Generators, Uninterruptible Power Supplies, Switchgear, Transformers and Earthing
- Creation of designs which meet or exceed our quality requirements and fall within our budgetary requirements
- Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate electrical equipment
- Work with local agencies having jurisdiction to ensure compliance with IEC requirements, the various APAC wide design codes and other jurisdictional requirements
- Review and approval of equipment submittals and ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions
- Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests prior to, and during construction phases
- Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems
- Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and startup as needed

Basic Qualifications
- Degree in an Electrical Engineering field and 3+ years directly related to data center or mission critical facility design
- Comprehensive understanding of the various code requirements across the APAC region
- Fundamental understanding of critical MV and LV electrical equipment
- Detailed understanding of MV system modelling, relays, protections schemes, circuit breakers, power and distribution transformers electrical switchgear, grounding and earthing
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous consultant negotiation and management skills associated with design, construction and project execution
- Experience with fast track design/build projects and or multiple significant upgrade projects
- Experience with large scale technical operations or large-scale compute farms and knowledge of building codes and regulations
- Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities and to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction
- The ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high level review

**About the Role :**
