Job description:

• You will perform bed-side blood-taking procedures (venepuncture) to collect blood specimens for laboratory investigations at the inpatient ward setting (mainly adult & geriatric) in Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) and Integrated Care Hub (ICH).
• You will also support sectional initiatives to review and improve work processes to achieve organisational goals.
• You will also conduct HIV screening interviews for patients.
• You will also be expected to support the Section Leader in other operational and administrative matters.

Requirements

• Have a keen interest in blood-taking (venepuncture)
• No experience needed as training will be provided
• Able to work independently and can be a team player.
• Able to work in a physically fast paced environment.
• Possess good communication skills
• Able to work 2 rotating-shifts which includes weekends and public holidays. Working hours are as follows (based on roster pattern) :
• 7am - 4pm
• 8am - 5pm
• 3pm - 9.30pm (PM shift)

Responsibilities:

• Communicates clearly with patients, explains procedures, addresses concerns, ensures comfort, and practices proper patient identification and Universal Precautions during blood collection.
• Performs venepuncture, sorts and labels specimens accurately, ensures timely dispatch to the lab, and maintains accurate records in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system.

Who We Need

The phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples from patients using various techniques, ensuring patient comfort and safety.

The responsibilities are as stated below:

• Responsible for obtaining quality blood, urine and stool samples for laboratory investigations.
• Performs blood collection by venipuncture, heel prick, finger prick and dripping method.
• Performs order entry in medical record system and ensures that the tests ordered are accurate and complete.
• Blood collection for blood culture.
• Responsible for Phlebotomist stock inventory.

How to Succeed

• At least 6 months of experience in Phlebotomy work.
• Must be able to perform shift, weekend and Public Holiday duty.
• Certificate of Performance in Theory & Practice of Phlebotomy.
• Have a keen interest in venipuncture.
• Possess good communication skills.

Roles and Responsibility:

• Responsible for the skillful, timely and accurate collection of blood specimens from various patient ages as requested by the clinician using any appropriate techniques listed below:

1. Venipuncture & Dripping method
2. Capillary collection-fingerpick/heelprick
3. Blood culture specimen collection

• Adhere an experience venipuncture skill for adults, pediatric and infant.
• Rotate duties between hospitals as determine by manager.
• Courteous and exhibit genuine concern for patients.
• Responsible for overall performance of location assigned
• Any other duties as assigned from time to time by the management.

Job Requirements:

• Certificate in Phlebotomy and/or recognized diploma in Nursing
• At least 3 years phlebotomy experience in pediatric/infant
• Must be able to travel between sites and main laboratory.
• At least 3 years supervisory experience in a similar industry
• Good knowledge in phlebotomist's SOP and best practices
• Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Able to work independently as well as a team.
