The Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of NParks, safeguards the health and welfare of animals through comprehensive and integrated programmes and works closely with partners in the veterinary and animal-related industries to strengthen capacities and enhance competencies in animal health and welfare. It is the main touch-point on animal and veterinary matters in Singapore and the first responder for all animal-related feedback. It also conducts public education and engagement programmes to foster a humane and gracious society for all, where pet owners, communities, and animals co-exist in greater harmony within our City in Nature.
(What you will be working on)
The Centre for Animal Rehabilitation (CAR) under the Professional and Scientific Services Division receives lost pets, stray, and community animals. We strive to provide the best care for the animals in our shelter as we work towards reuniting them with their owner, rehabilitate and rehome those which are unclaimed. As a Senior Veterinarian in the Animal Shelter and Veterinary Section (ASV), you will be responsible for the veterinary care and management of animals at the Centre, as well as supervising a team of veterinary professionals, paraprofessionals and technicians.
- Veterinary care and management of animals that fall under the care of CAR, including physical examination, triage, diagnostics, treatment, medication, veterinary and surgical procedures, and sampling for biosurveillance.
- Supervise and guide the team running the operations at the animal shelter and shelter clinic, including biosecurity, veterinary and clinical records, process review, procurement, and management of inventory and contract services, workplace health and safety, compliance with ISO and SOPs.
- Provide veterinary support for ongoing AVS programmes including surgical sterilisation of community dogs and cats, rehabilitation and rehoming of animals, disease outbreak investigation, inspection, and biosurveillance.

- Area of study in Veterinary Science/Veterinary Medicine or related areas.
- At least 5 years working experience in veterinary clinics or animal shelters is required.
- Competent in handling and treatment of common companion animal species, including but not limited to dogs, cats, small mammals, red-eared sliders, and birds.
- Positive, independent, self-motivated, meticulous, and enthusiastic.
- Able to work effectively with others in a team environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Competent in Microsoft Office Applications.

- Practice evidence-based medicine and preventive care when data or guidelines exist, using sound judgment when they do not.
- Perform all basic surgeries with appropriate anesthesia, monitoring and pain management.
- Educate clients and clinic associates to improve their level of knowledge about veterinary care and husbandry.
- Charge for services rendered and products/prescriptions dispensed.
- Mentor veterinary student externs and students in summer jobs programs.
- Other assigned duties.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree required.
- Veterinary license in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the applicable veterinary board.
- Minimum of three years relevant professional veterinarian experience in a pet clinic or hospital environment.
- Independent, self-motivated, capable to meet tight timeline.
- Attention to details and accuracy with strong sense of urgency.
- Ability to handle multi-tasks and respond effectively to ad-hoc requests.
- Good stakeholder management skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
