This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Munich Re's Regional AI/Analytics Team (RAC) in Singapore for a 6-month full-time internship starting in October 2025. This role is designed for aspiring talents interested in the intersection of data science and next-generation AI technologies. Your Role
Collaborate with the regional analytics team to design, test, and evaluate Gen-AI solutions that support business functions such as underwriting, claims, and operations.

Support the enhancement of OCR and Document AI capabilities, including layout parsing, visual document analysis, and structured data extraction.
Contribute to building datasets, experimenting with RAG pipelines, agentic AI frameworks, and refining prompts to improve model performance.
Write clean, modular Python code to develop data pipelines, model prototypes, or Gen-AI system integrations.
Assist in evaluating model performance and iteratively improve system robustness and reliability.
Work alongside actuaries, data scientists, and domain experts across the APAC, Middle East, and Africa regions.
Support documentation, technical presentations, and high-quality demos for internal and external stakeholders.
Your Profile
Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field.
Familiar with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, or open-source LLMs) and the basics of prompt engineering.
Strong interest or foundational knowledge in OCR, LLMs, and agentic AI frameworks.
Proficient in Python; familiarity with SQL and/or JavaScript is a plus.

What you will be working on
• Leading in designing the research and experiment methodology in artificial intelligence, including in generative AI/large language models, and machine learning and reasoning.

What we are looking for

o Natural language processing, specifically in large language model (LLM) core component e.g. joint entity relation, information retrieval, prompt engineering, reasoning, sentiment analysis, vulnerabilities in LLM

o High-dimensional or spatial statistics
o Pure or applied mathematics, including (but not limited to) number theory, discrete mathematics and combinatorics, cryptography, probability, geometry and topology, algebraic geometry, and representation theory
o Integration of diverse non-textual data into AI models e.g. relational databases, tabular data
• Proficient in Python and familiar with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch and Hugging Face

• Curious, self-motivated, resourceful, meticulous and enjoys challenges

**Functional Description**
Decision Science colleagues will serve as a key member of the Credit and Fraud Risk organization. We seek a thought-leader and a problem-solver who can blend business, technical, and industry best practices when it comes to developing the analyses, models, and algorithms that power our customers' digital experiences.
This critical team is responsible for managing enterprise risks throughout the customer lifecycle, across our consumer and commercial businesses, and across all our global products. Our Decision Science teams use industry leading modeling and AI practices to predict customer behavior. **Responsibilities:**
+ Work with massive amounts of digital data (Web, App, API) and sophisticated tools in an industry leading Big Data environment.
+ Planning and delivering of high performing models, meeting agreed deadlines and ensuring accurate, efficient implementation of models in production systems
+ Learning industry developments and best practices, conducting research and development to incorporate best in class modelling methodologies and share with the team

You will be leading an energetic A.I./Machine Learning cross-functional team, collaborating with various business/product partners (e.g. Credit, Fraud, Risk, Web, Mobile, Marketing, Enterprise Automation, etc.) to drive a cohesive set of solutions enabling the ever-growing strategic capabilities in the AI field.
This role within American Express Technology (AET), will report into the Vice President, Enterprise Services Decision Science Center of Excellence (CoE).
Responsibilities:
- Drive AI and decision science vision, strategy, and execution across the organization
- Combine A.I./Machine Learning and Technology knowledge to implement highly scalable solutions to solve real-world problems in areas such as Generative AI, Personalization, Image Recognition, Speech Recognition, Natural Language Processing, Best Next Action, and Time Series predictions
- Research latest related academic papers and test nascent ideas which can potentially solve new business problems and enhance existing solutions.
- Responsible for developing and defining deployment strategies for production quality AI solutions in Cloud infrastructure at scale
- Drive both high-level and detailed technical designs and conduct design reviews as needed
- Responsible for health and quality of the code across the portfolio, including leadership over innovation, functional testing, and CI/CD tool integration
- Provide technical mentorship to team members at all levels
- Actively participate in business and technical discussions and forums across Amex
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related STEM fields. PhD degree preferred.
- Proven track record on producing outstanding research results (Journal and/or Conference publications, and patterns) is a must.
- 8+ years full lifecycle product development and engineering leadership in highly available, highly scalable, high throughput systems
- 8+ years of experience in building and delivering sophisticated solutions that leverage various AI solutions, machine learning algorithms or technologies and are able to scale optimally.
- Expert in at least one of the following fields:
o Generative AI
o Machine Learning
o Deep Learning
o Reinforcement Learning
o Natural Language Processing
o Optimization
o Probabilistic Inference
o Information Retrieval
o Recommendation Systems
o Bayesian Inference
o Advanced time series forecasting
- Hands-on Experience with most of the following open-source solutions:

Ability to convey complex, technical subject matter in a clear and straightforward manner; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate through written and oral presentations with all levels of the organization
- Solid project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Hands-on Experience with GCP and/or AWS is a plus.

What you will be working on
The Data Science Accelerator Department (DSA) drives the pervasive use of data across CPF Board to aid policy and operational decision making by providing a consolidated view of good quality data, effective governance, strong data science capabilities and modern data infrastructure and tools.
In this role, you will:
• Communicate with stakeholders to understand challenges and designing data-driven and business-centric solutions.
• Assist in data collection, preparation, processing, and exploration tasks.
• Support the development, implementation, maintenance and/or enhancement of machine learning/AI models/Gen AI solutions.
• Design end-to-end automation workflows e.g. MLOps.
• Conduct research and preparing materials on data science for training purposes, including visual narratives or infographics.
• Present findings and insights through data visualizations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Participate in team meetings and contributing ideas to ongoing projects.
• Provide support for data-related activities.
What we are looking for
