Qualifications & Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of MAS regulations and industry guidelines, including Outsourcing, Technology Risk Management, Business Continuity, Cybersecurity Act, PDPA, and ABS frameworks.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure in fast-paced and crisis-driven environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills across multiple levels.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to make sound, data-driven judgments.

Risk and Performance Management Department

The Risk and Performance Management Department is responsible for the independent assessment, measurement, management, monitoring and reporting of GIC’s market, credit and operational risk profiles.

The Operational Risk Management team is responsible for driving and managing the corporate operational risk management program within GIC. Operational risk tools and analytics are developed to better inform management about the operational risk landscape. We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual to join the Operational Risk Management team as a Vice President/Senior Vice President on a 1-year contract.

What impact can you make in this role?

You will be part of a team that is responsible for the independent assessment, measurement, management, monitoring and reporting of GIC’s operational risk profiles.

What will you do in the Operational Risk Management team?

  • Design corporate-wide operational risk policies that is aligned to market practices and ensuring the consistent interpretation and implementation of these policies
  • Drive the development of operational risk tools to identify and address control weakness and/ or gaps
  • Provide independent review and challenge of operational risk self-assessments and root cause analysis for operational risk events
  • Partner the process owners in the design and review of their processes to strengthen their control environment
  • Proactively identify risk areas to perform deep dive analysis or thematic reviews on the specific processes
  • Participate in new product assessments and ensure that operational risk considerations have been adequately assessed

What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?

  • A good Degree in Finance, Business, Accountancy or related fields of study
  • Preferably 10 to 15 years of relevant working experience in the financial services industry
  • Strong analytical skills with in-depth knowledge of operational risk tools and best practices as well as good understanding of operational processes, risks and controls in the financial services industry
  • Strong abilities in embracing change, communicating the need for change, and applying forward thinking in initiating process improvements and transformation
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications and presentation skills with ability to work cross-functionally, across different business areas and seniority level, and to synthesise detailed information
  • Additional qualifications such as CFA, FRM and CPA will be favourably considered

+ Work collegiately with all stakeholders across divisions and jurisdictions, building a network of trusted relationships. Work closely with the Business and attend meetings with them on transactions, providing clarity and strong guidance and direction on risk appetite.
+ Active involvement in term sheet, loan documentation and ISDA/CSA review and discussions with Business stakeholders, influencing where appropriate content and credit terms, ensuring these are acceptable from a risk and commercial standpoint.
+ Proactively keep track and monitor allocated portfolio and clients from a client specific as well as a sector and country perspective, and where issues are identified, flagging these with relevant Business and ICD stakeholders. Formulate mitigating actions where material risk issues arise.
+ Support new initiatives by the Business providing guidance from a risk perspective. Involvement where appropriate in the development of credit and policy guidelines and participation and support on assigned projects including contribution to change initiatives to drive efficiencies.
+ Involvement in various initiatives and projects including change of policies, procedures liaising with relevant stakeholders in the Region and also in Tokyo Head Office.
**Job Requirements:**
+ For AVP: Minimum 5 years of corporate credit experience in the banking industry, focusing on large corporate counterparties.
+ For VP: Minimum 7 years of corporate credit experience in the banking industry, focusing on large corporate counterparties.
+ Experience in a credit analyst role preparing credit applications or a credit reviewer role providing recommendations to the approver.
+ Experience in reviewing cashflow projections and conducting analysis of financial statements, synthesizing financial and non-financial information to form a forward view of the counterparty.
+ Competent writing ability with experience in preparing credit applications or recommendations in a clear and succinct manner balancing all risk and commercial considerations.
+ Broad product knowledge and competence in the analysis of traditional lending, trade finance, acquisition finance, structured transactions, and derivatives
+ Experience across multiple industries and/or regions within Asia an advantage however not a strict requirement.
+ Good understanding of different sector risk dynamics, drivers and fundamentals, with an ability to apply this in the analysis of counterparty success factors and business and financial risks.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusted relationships with the Business and other stakeholders by providing clear advice on risk appetite, due diligence requirements and structuring, and finding solutions to risk issues.
+ Track record of providing a contribution beyond day-to-day credit risk management, including around credit portfolio reporting, deep dive analysis, contribution to policy, ideas for improvement, special projects, etc.
+ Evidencing a strong graduate or post graduate academic record.
+ Resilient individual able to operate under pressure, with the ability to prioritize peak workloads and deliver to tight deadlines.

Assist senior management with reviewing and challenging underwriting transaction requests, collaborating with Credit Department for decision making, and applying strong credit knowledge and transaction experience to assess credit and market risks of underwriting positions.

  • Manage credit origination, portfolio oversight, and ongoing risk management activities.
  • Review with deep analysis and view of the market conditions, and review the weekly MtM position updates of unsold exposures and business' strategies.
  • Perform analysis of underwriting portfolio and report it to the monthly regional committee participated by management.
  • Assessing new Structured Debt products and services, organizing discussions with various stakeholders including head office in Tokyo.
  • Credit risk management planning, ensure regulatory compliance, and support in planning and enhancing underwriting risk frameworks in APAC, focusing on effective risk management and collaboration with other regions.

Job Requirements :

  • Degree or equivalent with experience in Financial Institution credit risk
  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in banking
  • Strong credit risk and market risk analysis, strong working knowledge in underwrting in banking is essential
  • Good communication, interpersonal skills and fluent in written and spoken English
  • Team player and strong sense of ownership of outcomes
