Overview:
The role of Medical Specialist is a key position in the clinical histology laboratory. The primary responsibility of this role is to perform various medical procedures, including histological testing and slide scanning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform histological testing, encompassing sample accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and re-embedding of tissue specimens.
- Conduct routine H&E stain, special stains, as well as immunohistochemistry (IHC) and in-situ hybridization (ISH) stains according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Perform slide scanning and macrodissection as required, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Evaluate sample acceptability based on established guidelines and process specimens for analysis in accordance with established written procedures.
- Accurately evaluate test results according to standardized protocols.
- Maintain quality control measures during testing to ensure compliance with established quality standards. Document corrective and preventative actions using good documentation practices.
- Monitor reagent inventory.
- Assist in the proper maintenance and servicing of laboratory equipment, adhering to manufacturer specifications and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Participate in internal and external quality assessment as needed.
- Adhere to good laboratory practices for all procedures, complying with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory standards.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a biomedical or biological science from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum 2 years of working experience in a clinical histology laboratory is preferred.
- Good analytical skills with keen attention to detail are essential.
- Ability to work independently as well as being a good team player with initiative and adaptability to change.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
