The Technical Project Manager/ Senior Technical Project Manager will represent the owners during the new building phase of assigned VLAC vessel(s), overseeing all technical specifications, quality standards, and contractual requirements, while serving as the key technical link between the
shipyard, new building team, classification society, and owners.
Furthermore, the project manager will also co-ordinate with Technical Management to ensure seamless delivery, with all technical, operational, and guarantee matters clearly documented.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables
Newbuilding Project Oversight
- Provide strategic oversight to on-site teams, ensure compliance with international regulations, classification society requirements, and company standards and maintain a strong relationship with shipyards and key stakeholders.
- Monitor shipyard construction progress, quality, and report deviations, risks, or delays to the Owners.
- Support the site team and project team including inspections and acceptance tests as needed.
- Ensure Owner's supplies and instructions are integrated into the newbuild.
- Ensure project documentation, certifications and final acceptance procedures are verified and compiled for future reference.
- Negotiate contracts and provide alternative options to the Owners.
- Advise latest and proven innovative solutions to Owners to improve overall reliability of the Vessel.
Stakeholder Engagement & Team Management
- Act as the primary technical contact between the yard, project managers, class/flag surveyors, and Owner.
- Participate in progress meetings and technical discussions remotely and at the shipyard.
- Review and approve design specifications, inspection plans, and testing protocols to ensure vessel quality and reliability and escalate technical or contractual issues promptly.
- Facilitate effective communication and foster strong coordination among commercial, operations, marine, and technical teams.
- Support knowledge transfer to the Technical Management team.
- Ensure a smooth transition by sharing operational insights and outstanding recommendations.
Guarantee & Claims Management
- Identify and document defects, non-conformities, or outstanding work during construction and trials.
- Prepare and maintain a guarantee claims register before vessel delivery.
- Ensure all claims are submitted and resolved within contractual timelines.
- Maintain a clear documentation trail for future reference.
Pre-Delivery & Maiden Voyage Support
- Plan and arrange pre-delivery and maiden voyage supplies.
- Ensure the new deliveries are fully stocked and ready for operation.
- Track the status of new building and site team recommendations.
