We’re proud to have been helping our clients build better financial futures for over 50 years. How have we achieved this? By working together - and supporting each other - all over the world. So, join our team and feel like you’re part of something bigger.
About your team
At Fidelity, we are committed to supporting our clients to achieve their sustainable investing objectives. Our investment process takes environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) issues into account when, in our view, these have a material impact on investment risk and return. We seek to gain an understanding of the relevant ESG issues applicable to our investments through our internal research process and to identify those issues which may potentially threaten the value of our investment.
ESG analysis is carried out at analyst level within the equity, fixed income and real estate teams and our portfolio managers are also active in analysing the potential effects of these factors when making investment decisions, supported by a specialist Sustainable Investing Team which coordinates Fidelity’s approach to ESG and the implementation of our stewardship activities.
Fidelity holds shares in a variety of publicly traded companies listed on stock exchanges throughout the world. These companies hold regular shareholder meetings to obtain shareholder approval (via proxy circulars and related disclosure) on matters relating to their strategy and governance. The Sustainable Investing Team makes voting decisions on behalf of Fidelity’s funds as well as the majority of segregated institutional clients who authorize Fidelity to vote on their behalf. Votes are cast in accordance with Fidelity’s proxy voting guidelines.
About your role
You will work closely with our investment professionals to integrate ESG analysis in their investment analysis, provide them with ESG research and data as required and complete ESG risk analysis within portfolios and sector coverage. You will also work with client-facing teams to evidence the ESG integration process to our clients and consultants. The role will also involve engaging with companies on ESG issues. You will act as an ESG spokesperson for Fidelity internally and externally.
You will review, analyse, and formulate voting decisions for companies held in various Fidelity funds and institutional client portfolios. You will also help gather research, write memoranda, and provide governance and sustainability advice to other business units within the fund complex as required.
Key Responsibilities
ESG integration
Work with FIL investment analysts and portfolio managers across the asset classes to maintain awareness of ESG stock drivers and implement sustainability practices into our investment process
Provide ESG analysis on a fund and sector level and highlight the key ESG themes relevant to each sector and region
Lead engagements with investee companies on ESG issues in collaboration with the investment team
Contribute to the development of Fidelity’s sustainability investing-related policies and proxy voting guidelines
Client interaction
Clearly articulate Fidelity’s ESG strategy and investment-relevant sustainability issues to clients, prospects and consultants
Prepare written presentations, material and analysis as required in order to demonstrate our integration approach
Produce ESG-related reports, ESG integration examples and other materials for client consumption as required
Work with the RFP teams globally and other institutional support teams to organise responses to sustainability and ESG-related questionnaires
Contribute significantly to the production of quarterly and annual report writing for distribution to institutional clients
External representation
Raise Fidelity’s profile as a leader of sustainable investment and investor stewardship in Southeast Asia
Act as Fidelity’s spokesperson on ESG-related matters and represent Fidelity on various ESG-related associations, shareholder meetings, industry conferences, events and panel discussions as required
Act as a thought leader on ESG topics and prepare written material as required for public consumption by editorial and communications teams
Internal development
Build a thorough understanding of Fidelity’s overall strategies and objectives and manage relationships with internal stakeholders on all aspects of ESG
Develop mutually productive relationships with individuals from various parts of the Fidelity complex, including investment research, legal and compliance, product development, investment directors, institutional, sales & marketing
Provide effective ESG training to global investment teams and across the Fidelity complex
Participate in firm-wide ESG initiatives including any potential ESG product offerings as required
Policy and research
Maintain thorough understanding of current ESG themes and trends
Use market knowledge to create thought leadership and thematic articles for an external audience
Prepare writing and research assignments including company ESG research notes, policy drafts and thematic memoranda on ESG issues of topical interest
Provide a review and analysis of various proxy material, including company annual reports and circulars, remuneration reports and voting advisory services and produce voting recommendations for discussion with portfolio managers
Promote the development of positive ESG regulation in Southeast Asia and collaborate with global public policy, legal and compliance teams in responding to formal and informal regulatory consultations
Behaviours
Operate independently with confidence and credibility to influence outcomes at a senior stakeholder level both internally and externally
Maintain a constructive, supportive and collaborative working environment and participate in overall team building activities
Think strategically to develop best-in-class solutions, facilitate and streamline the team’s processes and propose solutions to enhance impact and efficiency
Contribute where required to the essential workflow of the team to ensure that all key deliverables are met in a timely and efficient manner
About you
Prior experience or proven interest of ESG integration/investment is essential, preferably within an asset manager
