What the role is

Undertake the function of Economist in the Research & Statistics department (RSD) to (i) work with business users to understand and address data and analysis requirements, (ii) undertake economic analysis to transform data into insights and knowledge for policymaking, and (iii) support the conduct of surveys.

What you will be working on

  • Work with business users within MPA to understand their needs and challenges, scope problems and develop economics-related use cases.
    Transform data into insights and data solutions by- ing qualitative and quantitative analyses, econometric modelling, and forecasting techniques.
  • Coordinate research and analysis by tapping on various data sources (both unstructured and structured). Employ effective use of appropriate software and programming to clean, wrangle and organise data into clear and appropriate business commentary for publications and action by user divisions.

What you will be working on

The intern will work with the team members to analyse the current workflows by creating process flowcharts to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for automation. Where appropriate, the intern will assist in developing scripts to improve efficiency and accuracy in data processing and compilation.
The intern will also develop a customised Q&A chatbot designed to address conceptual queries pertaining to the BPM (Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual) and the System of National Accounts (SNA). This chatbot will be built using a cloud-based machine learning platform with a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) framework, incorporating effective prompting techniques to enhance response quality and aims to be a more effective and accurate chatbot relative to existing ones
To facilitate user interaction, the intern will design, develop, and deploy a web-based user interface for the chatbot, integrating it with the machine learning platform through API calls.

What we are looking for

  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Knowledge of Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) frameworks, and prompting techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of DevOps, cloud computer and Application Programming Interface (API) programming.
