What the role is
Undertake the function of Economist in the Research & Statistics department (RSD) to (i) work with business users to understand and address data and analysis requirements, (ii) undertake economic analysis to transform data into insights and knowledge for policymaking, and (iii) support the conduct of surveys.
What you will be working on
- Work with business users within MPA to understand their needs and challenges, scope problems and develop economics-related use cases.
Transform data into insights and data solutions by- ing qualitative and quantitative analyses, econometric modelling, and forecasting techniques. - Coordinate research and analysis by tapping on various data sources (both unstructured and structured). Employ effective use of appropriate software and programming to clean, wrangle and organise data into clear and appropriate business commentary for publications and action by user divisions.
- Support the conduct of surveys to collect data from maritime firms for analysis
- Develop logically structured presentations including narratives of research and/or analytics findings to secure stakeholder commitment. This can include data visualizations and dashboards to explain these results.
What we are looking for
- Background in Economics, Business Analytics, Applied Statistics, or other related disciplines that possess an analytical and quantitative component.
- Able to code using Python/R and data visualization tools to perform data analysis and communicate findings.
- Strong knowledge of econometrics and business concepts is a plus
