  • Ability to analyse the experimental results and demonstrate interest in carrying out improvements to any assay deviation.
  • Ideally able to demonstrate competency in at least one technique in either one of the groups: Cell-based assay, flow cytometry, qPCR, ELISA, western blotting or Application of HPLC/UPLC in small molecules analysis.
  • Meticulous and organized in scheduling experimental assays, documentation of analytical test reports, and drafting protocols.
  • Ability to communicate and explain experimental results effectively with internal stakeholders and identify logical next steps of the experiment.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude towards guidance. Willingness to learn new analytical techniques and demonstrate interest to continuous deepen skill expertise.
  • Demonstrate collaborative efforts with cross functional teams in support of the technology transfer of analytical to operational department, including transferring of SOP and analytical assay.
  • Able to work in cGxP regulated environment.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with applicable regulations and site safety requirements.
  • Undertake other tasks as assigned based on project needs.

Requirements:

Job Summary

The Programme for Research in Epidemic Preparedness and Response (PREPARE) is a national programme established by the Ministry of Health (MOH) to strengthen Singapore’s research capabilities, translational platforms, and expertise for detecting, responding to, and containing infectious disease threats.

You will lead the development and execution of culture and inactivation methods for viral pathogens within a BSL3 high containment laboratory as part of the PREPARE Biorepository Core. The core processes, characterizes, and stores pathogen and patient samples to support pandemic readiness. You will collaborate with other PREPARE components to facilitate the national pandemic response by characterizing viral isolates and patient samples. Responsibilities include experimental planning, evaluation, documentation, and coordination with the host BSL3 laboratory at NTU LKC School of Medicine.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Specific
  • Develop and validate culture and viral inactivation methods for viral pathogens with pandemic potential in a high containment laboratory.
  • Manage and supervise PREPARE projects and staff in collaboration with the Biorepository Head.
  • Lead viral culture, patient sample processing, and related experiments supporting PREPARE projects.
  • Ensure proper documentation, quality control, tracking, and storage of viral isolates and patient samples.
General
  • Ensure safe execution of experiments, adherence to SOPs, safety, ethics regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Analyze experimental data and document results properly.
  • Prepare scientific papers and posters for publication and conferences.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by supervisors and HOD, including unlisted tasks.
Job Requirements Education
  • Ph.D. in Microbiology, Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, Infectious Diseases, or equivalent.
  • Relevant biosafety certification is desirable.
Experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience in Virology, Infectious Disease, or high containment work.
  • Familiarity with virology techniques such as virus and cell culture; experience with irradiator operation is a plus.
  • Willingness to work in a high containment setting with high-risk pathogens.
  • Ability to lead research independently and respond to emergencies outside regular hours.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with experience collaborating across labs and agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic scientific leadership and vision across STCC’s programmes, platforms, and partnerships.
  • Drive prioritisation and integration of translational research initiatives across academic and industry collaborators.
  • Champion scientific rigor and innovation across the research pipeline—from discovery to population impact.
  • Serve as a key liaison with principal investigators, industry, and funding agencies to shape national and international partnerships.
  • Guide the development and refinement of data- and specimen-driven research infrastructure, including the STCC Research Warehouse and Cancer Data Commons.

Qualifications

  • MD, PhD, or equivalent with a strong track record in oncology research and leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-institutional, multidisciplinary research programmes.
  • Experience in building translational pipelines, clinical research networks, or national research infrastructure.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

STCC; a nationally coordinated consortium to synergise cancer research capabilities in Singapore, brings together unmatched basic, clinical, and translational talent in Singapore to create globally significant peaks of excellence in selected Asian cancers.

STCC's five joint platforms – Cancer Clinical Trials and Investigational Medicine Units, Cancer Databases and Tissue Banks, Translational Research Integration and Support, Business Intelligence and Development, and Impact and Population Health – provide an enabling research and innovation environment driven to foster translational research and meaningful outcomes for society.

Through collaborative relationships with our partner institutions (comprising of National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS), National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS), National University Hospital (NUH), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH)), and by capitalizing on the strengths of industry and academia, STCC is uniquely poised to develop initiatives that are aligned with Singapore's goals in value-based healthcare innovation and economic value creation.
