Job Title: Science Laboratory Technician

The Science Laboratory Technician will be responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of a school's science laboratories. The Services required are set out as follows:

Science-related (Lab Preparation Work):

• Pack and prepare Primary 3 to Primary 6 experimental materials

and apparatus (E.g.: SPARKLE Kits) materials based on activity

book and other ad-hoc Science/extension activities

• Set up, and maintain laboratory equipment and apparatus for

experiments and practical sessions in the Science Laboratory.

• Ensure proper labelling, storage, and organisation of chemicals,

specimens and equipment.

• Support Science teachers in preparation of practical lessons

• Coordinate and manage Science-related activities during recess

• Report any malfunctions or safety concerns to the appropriate

personnel promptly.

• Design and create resources for ad-hoc Science enrichment

activities.

Hydroponics System Maintenance Duties: (Instructions and manual

will be provided)

• Perform routine checks and maintenance of the school's

hydroponics system to ensure it functions properly.

• Monitor and maintain water levels, nutrient concentration, and pH

balance according to guidelines.

• Clean and inspect system components such as tanks, pipes,

trays and pumps regularly.

• Assist in planting, harvesting and replanting activities as part of

the hydroponics cycle.

• Report any issues or malfunctions to the relevant staff promptly.

Mathematics-related:

• Assist Math teachers in preparing, organizing and distributing

teaching aids, manipulatives and lesson materials.

• Support the creation of customized worksheets, teaching tools,

and consumables (e.g. counters, fraction kits, measuring tools

etc).

• Organize, label and store materials systematically to ensure easy

access for teachers.

• Design and create resources for adhoc math enrichment

activities.

General Administrative support duties:

• Answering and directing phone calls

• Photocopying, scanning and printing documents

• Supporting the planning and execution of office events and

meetings

Job Title: Science Laboratory Assistant

Job Description:

As a Science Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the science teachers and ensuring the smooth operation of the laboratory. Your primary responsibility will be to prepare the laboratory for lessons, which includes setting up apparatus, equipment, and other teaching materials as requested by the science teachers.

Additionally, you will be responsible for collecting and clearing away equipment and other teaching materials after lessons, including safely disposing of waste and washing-up apparatus. You will also check for faulty and damaged equipment after each lesson, report to the science teacher or HOD (as appropriate), and repair if possible.

You will work closely with the Technology Assistant (TA) to keep IT equipment, including desktops, notebooks, visualisers, and projectors, in working condition. This will involve checking the equipment regularly, reporting any faults to the TA, and assisting with maintenance tasks as needed.

Laboratory Officer Role Summary:

• A Laboratory Officer will be responsible for assisting the laboratory technician in maintaining the cleanliness and operation of science laboratories.

The successful candidate will perform routine duties such as opening and locking doors and windows, sweeping the floor, emptying waste bins, cleaning whiteboards, and replenishing markers. They will also assist teachers with providing additional apparatus, record student particulars who damage apparatus, replace and dispose damaged apparatus properly.

The ideal candidate will be able to identify laboratory safety issues and report them to the lab technician. They will wash glassware with detergent and other apparatus as directed, clean, dry, and store all apparatus in designated storage areas.

In addition, they will perform minor repairs on apparatus, make gadgets for experiments, build up resources for demonstrating science concepts, and maintain these gadgets in working condition.

The Laboratory Officer will also be responsible for emptying and cleaning cupboards and shelves, oiling apparatus that rusts easily, greasing glass stoppers, polishing glass cupboard doors and brass equipment, and inspecting and thoroughly cleaning the drainage system in the laboratories.
