Job Description
The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading multi-disciplinary institute devoted to developing new paradigms for understanding biological functions in health and diseases from the perspective of cell, tissue and organ mechanics/dynamics and mechano-signal transduction. The institute operates on a fully integrated open-lab philosophy, with an extensive infrastructure supported by core facilities dedicated to technology such as state-of-the-art light microscopy, nano- and micro- fabrication, and computing.
We are seeking a highly motivated and self-driven postdoctoral research fellow to join the Collective Cell Dynamics in Mammalian Development and Reproduction laboratory at the Mechanobiology Institute, National University of Singapore.
Our group investigates how collective cell behaviors emerge and how they connect to biological functions in development and reproduction. We focus on cellular mechano-chemical coupling in mammalian tissues and aim to uncover the design principles of multicellular dynamical systems. In particular, we are interested in interdisciplinary approaches to study the interplay between sperm and somatic cells in the male reproductive tract.
Despite their physiological importance, the origins and roles of sperm cell dynamics in reproductive tracts remain poorly understood. To address this, we employ intravital microscopy of murine reproductive tissues, enabling direct observation of cellular and molecular activities in vivo. Specifically, we aim to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms by which collective sperm dynamics arise and contribute to reproductive function and aging, combining live-cell imaging, microfluidic devices, and mathematical modeling.
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong leadership qualities, a passion for research, and a creative, problem-solving mindset. They should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively within a diverse team.
Qualifications
  • PhD in the life sciences or related fields
  • Fundamental knowledge and skills in molecular biology, cell and tissue culture, microscopy and mouse handling
  • Experience in omics analysis, and/or bioinformatics is advantageous but not required
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as a team player
The above eligibility criteria are not exhaustive. Additional selection criteria may apply in accordance with MBI's prevailing recruitment policies. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
