We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior / Process Development Chemist join the Jurong Pilot Plant (JPP). In this role, you will oversee the Rapid API system and chemistry laboratory functions, enabling the seamless introduction of new processes from R&D into pilot-scale production. You will play a key role in supporting the manufacture of drug substances for clinical, toxicology, and safety trials, as well as evaluating commercial-scale feasibility, identifying scale-up challenges, and driving design-for-manufacture (DFM) opportunities.
This role also includes supporting technical transfers from R&D into manufacturing, maintaining the Rapid API system, and commissioning new laboratory equipment to strengthen site capabilities.
Rapid API is a next-generation robotic and programmable platform that automates end-to-end chemical processing — from precise material dispensing and intelligent reaction control to advanced real-time analytics. By integrating robotics, programming, and smart data systems, it ensures reproducibility, compliance, and accelerates API development.
Key ResponsibilitiesPartner with R&D project teams to translate process development objectives into laboratory-scale studies.
Design and evaluate process routes, determine scale of operation, and define appropriate equipment and workflows.
Plan material requirements and coordinate logistics for laboratory and pilot studies.
Collaborate with Pilot Plant teams to establish recipes, equipment configurations, and analytical methods.
Conduct laboratory experiments using both manual setups and automated Rapid API workflows.
Develop, program, and execute workflow recipes on the Rapid API platform.
Perform reaction monitoring, sample analysis, and compile results into technical reports and presentations.
Conduct robustness, kinetics, and scale-up studies to validate process feasibility prior to plant campaigns.
Apply DoE and design space verification to generate data for regulatory submissions.
Lead troubleshooting, optimisation, and improvement initiatives for processes and workflows.
Organise and facilitate pre- and post-study review meetings with cross-functional teams.
Drive continuous improvement and expansion of Rapid API capabilities to cover additional unit operations.
Manage and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring compliance with EHS and GMP standards.
Maintain risk assessments and ensure laboratory safety standards are upheld.
Act as a champion for digital and smart manufacturing technologies, promoting the adoption of Rapid API.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering, with a minimum of 5 years of pharmaceutical or laboratory experience.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing requirements for optimum process operations.
Preferred Qualifications
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
PhD or MSc in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
Hands-on experience with programmable laboratory or automated systems.
Experience in running and interpreting DoE studies.
Knowledge of programming, coding, or automation workflows.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

- Perform advanced characterization of materials using XRD, SEM, TEM, UV-Vis spectroscopy, EQE, PL, and related techniques.
- Supervise and mentor junior research staff and students.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of research progress and contribute actively to scientific publications and reports.
- Support and drive collaborative research initiatives across departments and institutions.
- Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field, with a minimum of 4–5 years of relevant research experience (including Ph.D. study period).
- Proven expertise in chemical synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles or quantum dots, particularly chalcogenide and halide semiconductors (preferred).
- Strong hands-on experience with synthesis methods such as colloidal synthesis, hot-injection techniques, solvothermal/hydrothermal growth, and sol-gel processes.
- Expertise in semiconductor material characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM, EQE, PL, UV-Vis spectroscopy).
- Knowledge and experience in solar energy conversion devices, including photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical systems, is advantageous.
- Strong research track record evidenced by publications, patents, or grants.

- Support and drive collaborative research initiatives across departments and institutions.
- Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field, with a minimum of 4–5 years of relevant research experience (including Ph.D. study period).
- Proven expertise in chemical synthesis of inorganic nanoparticles or quantum dots, particularly chalcogenide and halide semiconductors (preferred).
- Strong hands-on experience with synthesis methods such as colloidal synthesis, hot-injection techniques, solvothermal/hydrothermal growth, and sol-gel processes.
- Expertise in semiconductor material characterization (XRD, SEM, TEM, EQE, PL, UV-Vis spectroscopy).
- Knowledge and experience in solar energy conversion devices, including photovoltaic and photoelectrochemical systems, is advantageous.
- Strong research track record evidenced by publications, patents, or grants.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and in diverse, interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated initiative, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage independent research projects.
