This challenging role is created to support the continual expansion of a Singapore-based R&D Center of Excellence for a US$3B MNC in the life sciences industry. The candidate’s principal job function lies with design of mechanical components and assemblies. In addition, the candidate will be asked to perform secondary functions such as sustaining engineering and cross-functional support relating to Singapore-based manufacturing operations. The position will report to a local Mechanical engineering team lead and will require occasional regional and global travel (10-15%).

Responsibilities
Design functional system components as well as sub-assemblies to support the development of new products or to improve existing products
Seek balanced optimal design by taking into consideration influencing factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, interchangeability, ease of assembly, and cost
Communicate and coordinate with other organizations affected by design development and changes, such as operations, logistics, quality, and suppliers
Proficient in applying detail industry drafting standards and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Process Engineering Change Orders and practice organized revision control using a PDM tool (SAP)
Have proven track record of product development experience from concept stage to mass production
Could gather design requirements during early stages of development with strong communication and coordination with other stakeholders internally and across geographies
Conduct design reviews with key stakeholders, gather feedback and progress designs forward.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior members of the mechanical engineering team
Have proven project management and peer leadership skills to meet the design delivery timelines
Comply with all workplace safety regulations, company policies and procedures. Ensure work meets company quality standards
To liaise with suppliers to improve and/or gain knowledge of manufacturing techniques & cost-effective manufacture.
Peer checking of engineering documentation, ECRs and drawings Maintain the effectiveness of the Quality system at the sites via adherence to applicable policies and procedures
Complete Quality System related actions in a timely manner according to procedures e.g. CAPA, NCR
Adhere to Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or equivalent, well versed in parametric modelling and drafting.
Minimum 5 years experience in product design fields.
Proficiency in 3D parametric solid modelling is a must. Experience with Solidworks / Unigraphics NX preferred
Good understanding on the various manufacturing methods – machining, stamping, moulding, forming, welding, brazing, soldering and adhesive bonding
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced design environment with complex project attributes, involving mechanical, electrical, fluidic and optical components
Ability to produce completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning
Ability to multi-task and collaborate effectively within a team environment that may span multiple geographical and time zones
