START is a department in NTUitive Pte Ltd (The Innovation and Enterprise (I&E) Company of NTU) and is a national technology translation centre established with funding from NRF with the objective of translating and commercializing membrane technologies invented in Singapore IHLs. The first tranche of funding (from Apr 2016 to Sep 2021) involved scouting and scaling up of membrane technologies from local IHLs and industry partners towards industrial scale pilot validation and eventual licensing for commercialization. The second tranche of funding (from Oct 2021 to Sep 2026) involved the scope in first tranche as well as setting up the integrated validation plant (IVP) to validate new technologies developed/scouted for energy savings in desalination.
We are looking for a Laboratory Officer (green box) responsible to support Lab Engineer and project leads on the characterization and analytical requirements of all projects. The Lab officer will be responsible for sampling, testing and data collection for in-house and pilot water samples, membrane QC as well as analytical equipment purchase and maintenance.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Sampling and analysis of the water samples from internal and external pilot testing.
- Samples collection and preparation for third party analysis as per established protocols.
- Charaterisation of membranes.
- Operation and data collection from various analytical equipment and membrane performance testing.
- Diligent documentation which includes record keeping and efficient data collection and compilation.
- Maintain laboratory housekeeping, SOPs and RAs, operation log records, and inventory for consumables and chemicals.
- Daily maintenance of all the assigned equipment to ensure smooth operation.
- Plan the analysis sequence effectively to deliver results in the stipulated turn-around time.
- Assist lab engineer and project leads in membrane fabrication, process pre- and post- operations e.g., membrane dope characterization, membrane material testing and characterization, and membrane system performance evaluation.
- Schedule timely preventive maintenance with the vendor for all the assigned equipment and maintain proper record.
- To liase with vendors for purchasing of equipments/consumables.
- Support project execution by actively helping the team execute their tasks and deliverables needed.
- Support the preparation of technical reports for discussion in the group meetings and presentation of regular project progress review to the team.
Requirements:
- Diploma/Bachelor's degree in chemistry/Analytical Chemistry or equivalent with at least 2 years (4+ preferred) of industrial experience in analytical chemistry, water and wastewater testing, materials characterization, membrane systems testing.
- Relevant experience in operating water analysis equipment including, but not limited to, HPLC-GPC, TOC, GC, Viscometer, ICP, Karl Fisher, Auto titrators, Microscopy, UV-Vis spectrometry such as Hach instruments and COD/TSS/TDS measurement.
- Highly motivated self-started and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to collect, compile and communicate technical information effectively and precisely to the team.
- Trained in or familiar with health, safety and environment (HSE) practices/protocols, e.g. safety risk assessment, LOTO etc.
