About the Role

As a

Product Quality Manager (PQM)

, you will be our in-region quality leader, driving product quality execution across multiple global manufacturing sites. You'll partner tightly with cross-functional teams in the United States and abroad, as well as with contract manufacturers and key component suppliers, to ensure that every build stage meets OpenAI's uncompromising standards. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and an ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, hands-on environments.

In this role, you will:

Drive in-region quality execution across multiple manufacturing sites, ensuring builds meet reliability, cosmetic, and user experience standards.

Build and scale quality management systems (QMS) spanning development, validation builds, ramp, and mass production.

Provide day-to-day quality support and guidance to contract manufacturers and suppliers.

Oversee quality labs and test infrastructure, including IQC, OQC, ORT, in-line inspections, and other test processes.

Aggregate and analyze manufacturing, test, and field data to build real-time dashboards and surface top quality issues.

Lead root cause investigations, corrective/preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Partner with support teams to reduce field return rates and improve the customer experience.

Plan and execute audits to confirm adherence to OpenAI standards, SOPs, and regulatory requirements.

Communicate quality status clearly to cross-functional stakeholders, escalating issues rapidly when needed.

Capture lessons learned to feed forward into design, supplier selection, and future product improvements.

You might thrive in this role if you:

Have 10+ years of experience in product quality, manufacturing quality, operations, or hardware engineering for high-volume consumer electronics (or adjacent high-reliability industries).

Hold a BS in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Materials Engineering (or related field); advanced degree a plus.

Have successfully launched new hardware products from proto through mass production.

Possess deep knowledge of consumer electronics assembly & test processes, including PCBA, integration, calibration, and cosmetic inspection.

Bring strong expertise in statistics and analytics: SPC, DOE, capability analysis, sampling plans, GR&R, FMEA, and reliability statistics.

Have demonstrated success leading root cause investigations and using FA tools such as X-ray/CT, cross-section, and microscopy.

Are proficient in interpreting GD&T and tolerance stacks, with working knowledge of metrology.

Have experience with automated data pipelines and dashboards (SQL, Python/R, Tableau or similar), with bonus points for applying AI/ML to quality datasets.

Communicate with clarity and impact, whether in working-level discussions or executive reviews.

Thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments, and are willing to be hands-on.

Are open to significant international travel (up to ~50%).

Cross-functional Leadership

Qualifications & Requirements

+ Track and monitor quality metrics (Yield, Losses, Escapes), and perform trend analysis to identify systemic improvement opportunities.
+ Drive engagement & training of inspectors and certifying staff to ensure disposition & inspection
+ Drive engagement and participation in Lean including Kaizen and Shingijutsu events to improve quality for the business.
+ Act as focal point for all quality matters and clarifications for the business unit.
+ Support internal audits and perform CAR verifications.
+ Support, review and approval of New Product Introduction (NPI) and Process Change Notice (PCN) initiatives.
+ Lead and Partner with system engineers to make Procedural Changes.

**Ideal Candidate**
The ideal candidate is able to demonstrate familiar understanding of the Aerospace industry and has worked in an Aerospace industry for at least 5 - 6 years.
**Required Qualifications**
+ Minimum of 6 years relevant aerospace experience in repair/manufacturing or a quality assurance role
+ Holds a recognized Lead Auditor or Internal Auditor certification.
+ Knowledge of Six Sigma quality concepts and tools.
+ Knowledge of manufacturing processes (heat treat, welding, shot peening, coating, chemical processes, non-conventional machining)
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Knowledge of RCCA/HF techniques
+ Familiar with general aviation legislation and quality systems (ISO9001/AS9100)
+ Familiar with First Article Inspection / Substantiation

Job Description

The Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) Engineer is a member of the Quality Assurance department, as well as the project team. He works closely with other departments to conduct investigation on product failures reported by Customers, in order to arrive at the root cause of failure and proposes corrective and preventive measures in order to improve product quality.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and analyse product failures on site

  • Work with other engineers to determine the root cause of failure

  • Engage customers to resolve FRACAS cases and other quality issues

  • Lead and present in Failure Review Board meetings with internal staff and customer to resolve FRACAS cases

  • Propose corrective and/or preventive actions

  • Monitor implementation and effectiveness of corrective and/or preventive actions

  • Ensure appropriate forms are filled in with all relevant information of the reported failure until closure.

  • Maintain the database of FRACAS information

  • Monitor closure rates of FRACAS as per KPI

  • Conduct failure trend analysis

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Preferably possesses at least 2 years of industrial experience in the quality assurance field
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Proficient in delivering presentations to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical abilities, with proven teamwork and communication skills
  • Capable of preparing detailed reports and charts
  • Holding a Class 3 driving license is advantageous
