Your 'day to day'
Develop and implement Philip Morris Singapore's external affairs strategies. Accountabilities include:
  • Develop and execute external affairs strategies that are intended to manage current and future regulatory challenges in Singapore.
  • Provide strategic advice and coordinate with internal stakeholders as well as regional headquarters regarding key priorities of the company.
  • Identify and develop professional working relationships with external stakeholders to partner with them on issues such as illicit trade prevention, fiscal matters, and regulatory affairs.

  • Possess track record of strong working experience with POHs, government officials and TACs leaders. Has experience with trade negotiations (e.g. international, ASEAN) would be ideal but not necessary.
  • Need to demonstrate excellent networking, stakeholder management, communication and influencing skills.

This is a two-year contractual role associated with the expansion of CIL's programme focused on international economic law and policy. The objective of this position is to develop the research capabilities and knowledge of junior scholars by immersing them in a dynamic and supportive research environment, thereby enhancing their understanding of various aspects of international economic law and policy.

The responsibilities of the selected candidate will include:

- Assisting the Head of the International Economic Law and Policy programme with research pertaining to the programme's ongoing projects in international economic law. This includes CIL's position as an official observer in UNCITRAL Working Group III, its projects on international economic law, climate change, sustainable development, and its contributions to the development of the international architecture for economic regulation;

- Supporting the planning and organization of various seminars and workshops hosted by CIL, including the Singapore International Arbitration Academy;

- Conducting research and producing at least one publication for potential submission to a recognized journal upon the conclusion of the position;

Introduction

Urban Ecological Corridors: Multifunctional Corridors for People and Ecology at the Singapore-ETH Centre seeks a highly motivated and dedicated Research Assistant to join an ongoing research project to conduct socio-spatial analyses of urban natureways in Singapore. The overarching aim of this project is to better understand the interactions between ecological elements and human activities in these areas to design strategies for a harmonious existence.

Project Background

The Urban Ecological Corridors: Multifunctional Corridors for People and Ecology is a research study under the URA’s Cities of Tomorrow grant, led by Singapore University of Technology and Design and co-led by Singapore-ETH Centre Future Cities Laboratory Global. Launched in 2017, the Cities of Tomorrow (CoT) R&D programme is MND’s flagship R&D programme to develop cutting-edge solutions for the Urban Solutions and Sustainability domain. This research aims to quantitatively assess the functioning of existing urban ecological corridors to enhance their effectiveness. Focusing on the interactions between ecological features and human activities, the study promotes the co-location of people and wildlife through safe, shared spaces. Using five key corridor elements—Park Connector Networks, Cycling Paths, Parks and Gardens, Nature Ways, and Forest Patches—as case studies, the research explores socio-ecological dynamics. It highlights both beneficial and adverse human-nature interactions, ultimately seeking to identify distinct interaction zones and recommend design strategies for fostering harmonious urban-ecological coexistence.

Task/Job Description

This role will work on the socio-spatial analyses of case studies selected in the project. The role involves supporting the on-site and GIS mapping, and BIM modelling of the case studies for spatial, environmental, social and ecological parameters. Responsibilities include preparing and processing externally sourced and on-site data, as well as troubleshooting technical issues during GIS and BIM analysis. The role also requires leading social surveys, analysing multiple datasets, interpreting results, and working collaboratively with the team to document and summarise research findings, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout.

Job Requirements:
  • A Master's degree in linguistics or a relevant field
  • Strong interest in linguistics research, particularly in language evolution and endangered languages
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) for effective liaison with internal and external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in data processing tools (e.g., Google Sheets, Excel) and office applications
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively, while also collaborating within a team-oriented environment
  • Basic knowledge of data management practices (e.g., organising and securely storing research materials) is an advantage
  • Prior experience in data management or multilingual research is advantageous
  • Experience in linguistics or multilingual research is preferred, though not a strict requirement
