Role summary
The
Public Policy (APAC) Senior Manager
will join the GS1 Global Public Policy team and collaborate daily with GS1 offices and colleagues in Asia-Pacific. The position will have accountability for the execution of public policy activities that advance the GS1 Global public policy strategy and GS1 Asia-Pacific regional priorities. Responsibilities include engaging with regulators, intergovernmental organisations, industry associations, and other stakeholders, while also working closely with GS1 offices in approximately 20 markets.
The position requires extensive experience in the regulatory and public policy environment within Asia-Pacific and aims to promote understanding of global standards and regulatory harmonisation among key stakeholders. It offers the opportunity to work with a leading international organisation focused on enhancing safety and efficiency in global commerce by partnering with businesses and governments.
Responsibilities
- Expand regional public policy engagement through strategic engagements with stakeholders
- Regulatory Monitoring – identify and track legislative and regulatory developments at national and regional level in Asia-Pacific that influence the implementation of GS1 global public policy priorities and recommend a course of action
- Monitor and evaluate collaboration and project opportunities with government, intergovernmental organisations and industry groups/trade associations
- Proactively assess draft legislation and provide advice to Global public policy team on further action
- Assist in the coordination of policy positions with GS1 member organisations in Asia-Pacific to execute the Global Public Policy directions
- Consult with senior management of GS1 Member Organisations to further the strategic global public policy priorities
- Secure GS1 participation in key conferences, meetings, forums, represent GS1 there and ensure opportunities for global public policy leadership to participate
- Oversee the day-to-day activities related Public Policy projects
Education/experience
- Bachelor's level degree (required) in relevant field, such as public affairs, political science, international relations or business with more than 6 to 8 years of work experience
- Sector-specific experience in food, retail, e-commerce, supply chain logistics, sustainability or working in government and a thorough understanding of how trade associations and chambers of commerce function.
- Experience from APEC, ASEAN or regional/global intergovernmental organisations or government agencies and functioning in key Asian Pacific markets (e.g., experience from Australia, Japan, India, China, Indonesia) is highly appreciated.
Skills
- Must be fluent in English, oral and written; knowledge of major Asian language is beneficial.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills – confident presenter and public speaker.
- Proven organisational, analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong collaborative skills, an international mindset and willingness to proactively involve stakeholders from a wide range of countries and support multicultural working groups.
- Comfortable learning about new technology and explaining it in a simple way for external audiences such as industry and government.

Key job responsibilities
This role will support advocacy and outreach to policymakers for Project Kuiper, Amazon's initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
The Manager will work closely with cross-functional Kuiper teams including Regulatory, Business, and Legal teams. They will manage senior policymaker engagement to support Kuiper's country entry and business needs across Southeast Asia, including defining strategy, executing advocacy campaigns, and representing the company with policymakers, consultants, and trade associations. The Manager will also be able to immediately and directly enhance Amazon's advocacy on a broad range of telecoms and space-related policy issues.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

The team's purpose is to handle crisis situations that require cross-functional coordination, and communication to leadership, in order to mitigate serious risks to the company or the community. This could relate to pieces of content posted on the platform, the impact of terrorist attacks and violent incidents on our platforms, and thinking strategically about how geo-political events may present policy risk. SR Policy sits within our Content Policy team which is responsible for setting our Community Standards and Business Policies governing content on the platform. The role of SR Policy is to help leadership make enforcement decisions in the most critical cases when operating under significant time sensitive environment and stakeholder scrutiny. To do that we operate a global 24/7 on-call shift system, with responsiveness and accuracy of authoring communications being of paramount importance. You will need to be personally resilient, flexible and able to multi-task, enjoy quick turnaround work and be prepared to work on thematic issues that some may find emotive. To do this effectively, you are likely someone who can think strategically about risk, whilst also being able to probe into the detail of fast-moving situations. The team's purpose is to handle crisis situations that require cross-functional coordination, and communication to leadership, in order to mitigate serious risks to the company or the community. This could relate to pieces of content posted on the platform, the impact of terrorist attacks and violent incidents on our platforms, and thinking strategically about how geo-political events may present policy risk. SR Policy sits within our Content Policy team which is responsible for setting our Community Standards and Business Policies governing content on the platform. The role of SR Policy is to help leadership make enforcement decisions in the most critical cases when operating under significant time sensitive environment and stakeholder scrutiny. To do that we operate a global 24/7 on-call shift system, with responsiveness and accuracy of authoring communications being of paramount importance. You will need to be personally resilient, flexible and able to multi-task, enjoy quick turnaround work and be prepared to work on thematic issues that some may find emotive. To do this effectively, you are likely someone who can think strategically about risk, whilst also being able to probe into the detail of fast-moving situations. Someone who has operated at the intersection of policy and operations may be particularly suitable. You will be based out of Singapore and will provide a focal point for issues across the APAC region. SR Policy is a global team that responds to issues across regions and time zones. You will be expected to work on issues as they arise irrespective of geography.
Public Policy Manager, Strategic Response Policy Responsibilities:- Oversee and coordinate cross-functional Crisis response to major geopolitical or violent events
- Manage high profile escalations within the company including: chairing cross-functional meetings, aligning decision-makers, and escalating issues to leadership for decision as needed
- Proactively identify and assess potential risks, and work with policy, legal and operational teams to develop risk mitigation approaches, and drive cross-functional implementation, particularly relating to content issues
- Operate independently, and be confident managing multiple internal stakeholders, balancing differing opinions and perspectives, and weighing up risk in order to provide effective policy advice to leadership
- Produce and present internal communications for leadership to inform them of ongoing situations, and provide recommendations and decision support
- Inform policy development work, partnering with subject-matter experts to develop global policy standards
- 10+ years of program management experience with a Bachelor's degree in public policy, legal, political science, risk management, or related discipline
- Knowledge of geo-political,security or societal issues in APAC, how they intersect with social media, and the possible impacts real world events will have on the safety of the community
- Explain complex issues clearly in a multi-tasking and deadline-based environment
- Experience providing decision support and advice to executives and leaders
- Effective at consensus-building, and communicating with internal audiences
- Experience in Trust & Safety, Strategic Response, or Crisis Management
- Experience driving and managing multiple projects simultaneously to meet varying deadlines with varied stakeholders
- Experience framing and briefing difficult decisions to executive leadership
- Demonstrated ability to work at pace to make difficult decisions under pressure, use of critical thinking skills, clear and cogent communication skills, and practical experience of organizing and building relationships with teams across the company

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Public Policy (ageing, healthcare, digital government, future society)
The School of Social Sciences at NTU Singapore invites applications for a teaching-track Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in Public Policy, to be affiliated with the Public Policy and Global Affairs (PPGA) Programme. We welcome applicants who are experienced instructors, with preference for those who can teach in the areas of ageing, healthcare, digital government, and future society.
The Public Policy and Global Affairs Programme is one of the four major programmes in the School of Social Sciences, together with Sociology, Psychology, and Economics. We attract excellent students to our BSocSci and PhD degree programmes and provide them with interdisciplinary training, as well as practical knowledge and skill sets necessary to dissect and address real world problems facing political leaders, policymakers, and the global community.
We seek a dedicated colleague with the necessary skills to collaborate and strengthen PPGA's teaching portfolio and research programme, as well as commit to relevant administration duties. Personal aptitude will be important for this position.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in political science, public administration, or in a related field, a strong track record of teaching commensurate with career stage and effective teaching and training of undergraduate and/or graduate students. Teaching awards will be viewed upon favourably. A good publication record (with books and articles in international journals) would be useful.
The successful candidate is expected to teach modules in the following areas: healthcare and technology, e-government, ageing and healthcare, among others. They are also welcome to introduce new modules adjacent to these areas.
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team in administering the PPGA Programme.
Essential selection criteria:
- A PhD in political science, public administration, or in a related field.
- A strong teaching record.
- Experience and interest in teaching public policy modules (preference for those who can teach courses on ageing, healthcare, digital government, and future society).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and commitment relevant to teaching, pastoral care, and administering the PPGA Programme.
Desirable selection criteria:
- Interests in developing a research programme that strengthen and expand PPGA's research programmes and teaching portfolios.
