Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Optical Engineer / Optical Scientist to join our team to develop cutting-edge metasurface optics for next-generation micro display technologies for AR/VR. The role requires expertise in nano optics design and fabrication, optical system design and cross-functional collaboration with global teams.

Responsibility:

• Design and simulation of the metasurface optics, diffractive optics and other nano optical structures, especially combining with the micro-display devices (microLED and microOLED) for AR/VR applications
• Fabrication of the metasurface optics and nano optical structures; define the technical requirements and optimize the fabrication processes with fabrication partners
• Design and build the test setup for nano optics and the micro-display devices to characterize their performances
• Work with the team to build company IP portfolio on nano optics

Qualifications:

• Master or PhD degree with major in Optics, EE, Physics or related areas
• More than 3 years of nano optics / metasurface optics design and fabrication experience
• Familiar with the optical and physics design and simulation tools, such as Zemax, Lumerical FDTD, COMSOL and/or RCWA etc, and have successful experiences of designing, simulating and validating nano optics using those tools
• Working experience of fabricating the metasurface optical devices in the lab and familiar with nanofabrication process and equipment (EBL, DUV, CVD, dry etch)
• Experience of building optical test setup for flat optics / metasurface optics; understand the testing of micro-display devices
• Experience of programming languages such as Matlab, Python and/or C++ for the purpose of designing and simulating nano optics

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Optical Materials Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and optimizing optical materials, as well as implementing processes for precision surface preparation.

• Develop and optimize optical materials for various applications, ensuring high-quality performance and reliability.
• Implement processes for precision surface preparation, including cleaning, pre-treating, and coating surfaces to achieve optimal bonding and adhesion.
• Select appropriate materials and parameters based on job requirements, taking into account factors such as optical properties, durability, and thermal resistance.
• Apply advanced manufacturing techniques, including laser cladding, to repair and enhance optical components, following work instructions and best practices.
• Conduct quality inspections to ensure the integrity and consistency of optical surfaces, using precision measurement tools and techniques.
• Collaborate with supervisors and engineers to troubleshoot and optimize processes, ensuring efficient production and minimal waste.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including material usage, process parameters, and quality control data.
• Perform routine maintenance on equipment to ensure optimal performance, safety, and environmental responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

Qualifications:

• Master or PhD degree in Optics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in nano-optics/metasturface optics design and fabrication.
• Proficiency in optical and physics design tools such as Zemax, Lumerical FDTD, COMSOL, and/or RCWA, with successful experiences in designing, simulating, and validating nano-optics using these tools.

The Surfscan group includes a team of engineers, technology development, apps engineers and product marketing focused on technology that enables wafer, IC and equipment manufacturers to develop, qualify and monitor their process tools. Defects and process non-uniformities detected on Surfscan equipment allow for early identification of yield excursions. The flagship Surfscan products include the SPx platforms for wafer surface quality and wafer defect inspection tools and systems for inspection of polished wafers, epi wafers and engineered substrates during the wafer fabrication process.

• Facilitate the optical specifications, lens design, and supplier integration of new optics enabled products for the Optics Development Engineering group.

• Effective use of Code V or Zemax to design low residual aberration generating imaging lenses, relays, spatial/polarization beamsplitters and zoom lenses both from nominal design process to final Monte Carlo tolerance analysis and error budgeting.

• Construct complex system models using above components having all imaging paths with critical parameters needed to produce accurate and efficient raytracing simulations of Strehl/WFE performance, coherent and incoherent PSF size/shape, focal depth of field and pupil, multiple bounce ghost and non-sequential stray light analysis, and polarization ray tracing to quantify transmission, retardance, diattenuation.

• Interferometry experience preferred.

Education or experience should include:

• Designing, modeling and analyzing optical systems.

• Optical manufacturing processes.

• Code V or Zemax Optical software advanced user.

• Statistical lens tolerancing.

• Ghost and stray light analysis.

• Design for manufacturing based on capabilities of Optical metrology.

• Specification of precision opto-mechanical assemblies; and

• Data analysis using Matlab or other programs. Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluation, recommendation, and implementation of testing procedures and strategies for the latest NPI products.
• Perform electro-optical tests to characterize active optoelectronic devices and photonic integrated circuits.
• Generate test reports with measurement results and detailed analyses in a timely manner
