The Role: Editor, Asia Oil, Shipping and Chemicals News

The Team: The Asia news team for Platts, the news and markets reporting division of S&P Global Commodity Insights, sits in a varied and dynamic region that is the growth engine for an oil industry facing the pressures of energy transition, while grappling with increasingly complex trade flows and geopolitics. Our Singapore-based editors are part of a larger global news team comprehensively covering the commodities and shipping industries.

The Impact: The Asia news editor will work closely with news counterparts across the region and the world, including staff in Beijing, Tokyo, Penang and Gurgaon, and a network of stringers, to produce class-leading news and content across multiple platforms.

What’s In It For You

  • This role involves covering the oil, shipping and chemical sectors in Southeast Asia, complementing the rest of our Asia news team. The person in this role would be asked to drive our coverage of the growing region by explaining how its oil and gas flows impact its economies, amid the dueling challenges of rising energy demand and decarbonization pressures.
  • SPGCI’s news across the commodities chain can move markets, influence policy and shape executive decisions.
  • Ambitious journalists will have scope to pursue a plethora of stories and interviews to inform and educate our readers.

Responsibilities

  • Reporting on Asia oil, shipping and chemicals issues with a focus towards Southeast Asia.
  • Knowledge of the region and the importance of energy to Asia’s economies.
  • Producing a wide range of content, including breaking news, in-depth features, interactive infographics and podcasts.

  • Excellent writing and publishing skills.
  • Established contact base in the region would be an advantage.
