Job Description
We are looking for a reporter to join our Asia Credit team as we build out coverage of the rapidly growing private markets with a specific focus on distressed debt. The region has witnessed dramatic expansion in private funds targeting distressed investments and after years of debt fueled growth is rife with risks to chronicle and analyze. You will help break scoops of fact and insight in Southeast Asia and around the region, while also teaming up with colleagues globally to connect the dots.
You will be responsible for developing sources and breaking news on distressed debt, restructurings, bankruptcy proceedings and special situations, particularly at the intersection with private markets. You're driven by a strong desire to bring more transparency to the opaque corners of debt finance, a particular challenge for private markets but also a rich vein in public markets.
You are experienced covering capital markets, have a track record of delivering scoops on your beat and a good understanding of corporate capital structures and restructuring procedures. Candidates with a broad base of contacts across the financial services industry would be strongly preferred. You will also find opportunities to tell the market's most important stories across Bloomberg's various platforms, including Bloomberg TV and Radio, Bloomberg's Markets and Businessweek magazines as well as in podcasts, on QuickTake and in working with our data visualization team.
We'll trust you to:
- Break news on distressed debt and restructurings, with a focus on chronicling private companies' situations
- Spot new trends and connect the dots to craft insightful, agenda-setting enterprise stories
- Be self-driven but also can collaborate with colleagues across teams, bureaus and countries to deliver a global perspective to our audience
- Be innovative and think creatively about ways to make our content accessible to a diverse audience of business-savvy readers
- At least 3 years of recent financial journalism experience
- Experience in a real-time news environment
- Experience covering credit as a reporter
- Ability to write quickly and clearly under pressure
- Ability to spot trends, find holes in stories and work with reporters to deliver impactful news to our readers
