Scope of Services

Qualifications and Skills
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Laboratory Technician/Assistant.
- Prior experience in a primary school setting is highly advantageous.

- Proficient in English (reading, writing, and speaking).

- To assist the Science Department in maintaining 4 science
laboratories.
- To assist teachers in preparing and laying out of apparatus/materials
in the 4 science laboratories to support Primary 3 to Primary 6
Science classes (Total of 46 science classes).
- Ensure secured storage and safe handling of chemicals and
equipment. Maintain up to-date chemical inventory and Material
Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- To source through trusted online websites for relevant Science
multimedia, activity ideas, and resources for teachers.
- To liaise with external suppliers for regular maintenance of lab
equipment.
- To assist the Science department in the procurement of items

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Science Laboratory Assistant to support our Science Department in managing and preparing resources for an effective delivery of science curriculum.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Prepare resources, make up solutions, assemble apparatus, and deliver equipment to labs as required;
- Play an active role in developing and trialing new practical activities;
- Assist and demonstrate in practical classes as required;
- Provide technical advice and assistance to teachers, technicians, and students;
- Supervise students carrying out investigations and experiments;
- Keep laboratories tidy and ordered;
- Oversee the clearing away, storage, and maintenance of practical equipment after practical lessons;
- Work with other Technicians to ensure the safe storage, concentration of stock solutions suitable for students, labels, warning signs, and disposal of chemical and biological waste according to local regulations and guidelines;
- Support the cleaning staff in ensuring the safe cleaning of science laboratories and preparation areas;
- Maintain class sets of laboratory resources (including stationery);
- Service and clean equipment and resources as required;
- Carry out stocktaking of equipment, chemicals, and stationery, in order to maintain appropriate stock of apparatus and consumables;

- A Certificate or Diploma in a Science discipline;
- A minimum of two year's work experience in a laboratory or engineering setting or similar;
- Experience of working with electrical and laboratory equipment (advantageous);
- Sound knowledge of chemical use and safety and can ensure the safe and effective maintenance of equipment and laboratory spaces;
- Experience of undertaking risk assessments, implementing, and monitoring health and safety plans;
- Have experience in a secondary school or college setting (IGCSE and/or IB experience is an advantage);
- The ability to follow procedures and guidelines and capable of preparing and supporting advanced practical experiments, particularly for IB Higher Level courses;
- Fluency in English and the ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues;
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- A flexible approach to work, and the willingness to contribute to the wider team;
- The ability to use own initiative to undertake required tasks.
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about science education and has excellent technical skills. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of providing high-quality support to teaching staff and contributing to the smooth operation of a busy laboratory environment.
