Job Opportunity:
Health Assessment Specialist

The SPHS is a health research initiative at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore.

The project aims to investigate the interactions between lifestyle, physiological, genetic and other biomarkers and their impact on health and longevity.

In addition, the study will serve as a platform to monitor risk factors in the population and gain insight into determinants of health-related behaviours.

For this purpose, the study includes over 50,000 adult Singaporeans and long-term residents from three major ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay, and Indian), for a better understanding of disease aetiology in urban Asian settings.

This role is vital to the health assessment operations of the cohort studies that contribute to a Singapore population biobank.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Develop and document Work Instructions (WI) and SOPs for the data collection protocol.
  2. Source and coordinate with vendors for the procurement and supply of services or goods required for health screening operations.
  3. Perform health screening procedures according to WIs and SOPs. Examples of procedures: anthropometric measurements, blood pressure measurement, retinal imaging, ECG, visual acuity test, hand grip strength measurement, carotid ultrasound and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).
  4. Ensure participant safety and privacy through adherence to established guidelines and work practices.
  5. Participate in or conduct periodic technical re-assessments to ensure standardization and consistency in data collection and image acquisition.
  6. Implement new procedures for future research projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences / Biomedical Sciences or relevant fields, from recognised institutions
  • Ability to interact with people of various age groups and backgrounds.
  • Fluency in spoken Mandarin/Chinese Dialects/Malay/Tamil will be an advantage, to communicate with participants who are only able to converse in these languages.
  • Phlebotomy skill would be an advantage.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.

Your primary responsibility will be to invite target participants to take part in relevant studies by phone call or messaging, and then screen their eligibility for the study and make an appointment with them for the study procedures.

The ideal candidate should possess a good command of spoken English and Malay/Tamil/Mandarin/Cantonese/Hokkien/Teochew languages to conduct interviews with health research participants in local ethnic languages. At least 1 year of customer-facing work experience is required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inviting target participants to take part in the relevant study by phone call or messaging;
  • Screening their eligibility for the study and making an appointment with them for the study procedures;
  • Providing logistical information for the interview and study site visit;
  • Managing participant flow at the study site visit and verifying the participants' survey completion status;
  • Explaining the information in the study consent documents to the extent that the consent, if given, would be informed and voluntary;
  • Obtaining participants' consent before beginning any study procedures;
  • Interviewing participants according to the e-questionnaire and entering the responses accurately to the e-questionnaire via a tablet;
  • Timely completion of interview and registration of participants for their study site visit procedures before the cut-off time;
  • Preparing required material and equipment for the study site visits;
  • Organising work outputs to be handed over to the QC supervisor; and
  • Any other responsibilities as required by future research projects.
