The Opportunity:
This is a rare opportunity to take on a broad and strategic legal leadership role within a dynamic maritime environment. You will provide legal and commercial advice on a wide range of issues, from contract negotiations to cross-border transactions, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on matters of maritime law, commercial law, and cross-border compliance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (NDAs, service/vendor contracts, JVAs, SPAs, SHAs, etc).
  • Support strategic investments, M&A, and joint ventures across Asia and the Middle East.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
  • Oversee legal due diligence and provide practical solutions to support commercial decision-making.
  • Lead corporate governance and compliance initiatives, including policy development and training.
  • Manage external counsel and support contract management and record-keeping processes.
  • Participate in board-related matters, including drafting resolutions and maintaining minutes.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Degree in Maritime Law or equivalent.
  • Relevant legal experience, preferably in an in-house counsel role.
  • Strong understanding of the shipping (container) sector.
  • Proven experience in M&A, corporate advisory, and contract negotiation.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-border environment with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin is mandatory to work with both English/Mandarin stakeholders

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Legal (Director level) to lead our legal function across Southeast Asia. As the Head of Legal, you will be responsible for shaping the legal, regulatory, and governance infrastructure that supports our growth across five markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

What you will do:

Requirements

What we are looking for:

  • 12+ years of relevant legal experience, including regional experience in Southeast Asia; a mix of law firm and in-house experience is highly valued
  • Legal qualifications in Singapore, Malaysia, or other common law jurisdictions; admission to practice is preferred
  • Experience working within or advising on civil law jurisdictions (e.g., Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam) is highly preferred
  • Good understanding of regulatory environments across Southeast Asia, with expertise in both developed and emerging markets
  • Strong experience in financial services, fintech, digital lending and/ or payments is preferred
  • Proven ability to balance commercial pragmatism with legal integrity in high-growth, cross-functional environments
  • Experience managing legal teams and external counsel across multiple jurisdictions
  • Exceptional judgment, communication, and stakeholder management skills

Key Responsibilities of this Head of Legal, Global Investment Firm:

  • Provide strategic legal oversight across the group’s international operations, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards and internal governance policies.
  • Lead legal input on investment structuring, licensing, and jurisdictional compliance for new and existing funds.
  • Manage legal aspects of corporate transactions, entity lifecycle events, and shareholder processes.
  • Oversee governance documentation including board materials, decision registers, and delegation frameworks.
  • Supervise the company secretarial function and ensure statutory obligations are met across all entities.
  • Build and lead a high-performing legal team, fostering collaboration across legal, finance, and operational functions.

Key Requirements of this Head of Legal, Global Investment Firm:

  • Legally qualified with a current practicing certificate in a common law jurisdiction (e.g. Singapore, UK, Australia).
  • Brings at least 15 years of post-qualification experience, with a strong foundation in corporate, regulatory, or investment law.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing legal frameworks for investment structures across multiple regions.
  • Experience working within infrastructure, energy, or real asset sectors is highly advantageous.
