The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Nanyang Technological University is a leading school for Sustainable Built Environment. It has over 50 faculty members and more than 1,500 students and is rapidly expanding its range of education and research activities.
Key Responsibilities
The Research Associate should be familiar with applied geophysics, data analytics, and/or underground engineering, particularly land and marine geophysical surveys.
The position involves conducting research, supervising undergraduate students, and writing scientific articles.
Job Description
To be involved in a research project related to applied geophysics, particularly land and marine geophysical survey, machine learning and data analytics, and seismic interpretation;
Key responsibilities include conducting seismic survey and developing machine learning algorithms for data analysis;
A MS Degree in applied geophysics or equivalent from a recognized university;
Able to work independently and collaborate with team members;
Good verbal and written communication in English - essential for data analysis and communication with stakeholders
Working or research experience in seismic data processing and/or underground engineering of at least 1 year is desirable.

What you will be working on
- You will be part of the team that process plans and calculations of the geotechnical structures and other structures such as building foundations, sub-structural works, tunnelling and earth-retaining structures for excavation works which are submitted by professional engineers and accredited checkers.
- You are required to perform checks and reviews of structural and geotechnical plans including geotechnical analyses, impact assessments, and monitoring plan.
- You are also expected to develop policies related to such works, conduct site checks and investigate site non-compliance.
What we are looking for
- A post-graduate degree in geotechnical engineering such as MSc(Geotechnical Engineering), MSc(Soil Mechanics) or equivalent
- A practising professional engineer registered with the Professional Engineers Board
- At least 5 years of post-graduate design and construction experience in geotechnical works e.g. deep foundation, deep excavation works, tunnelling, ground improvement and stabilisation works
- Experienced in the use of numerical modelling and geotechnical software
- Good command of spoken and written English.
