Job Description
About the role
As Vice President of Engineering, you will advance Wego’s evolution from scale-up to public-company-ready hyper-growth – accelerating product delivery and sharpening technical excellence across our 100-strong (and expanding) Engineering organization. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will execute strategy across multiple product lines, elevate distributed teams in S/SE Asia, and deepen organizational capability as scope/org scales.
Key responsibilities
- Model product-engineering leadership. Optimize for the business and partner closely with Product, Design, and Data to turn customer insights into scalable solutions.
- Scale teams smartly. Raise talent density, strengthen diversity, and deepen engagement across Singapore HQ and engineering hubs – while attracting and upskilling engineers in every hub.
- Level-up leaders. Coach directors and managers, run succession plans, and create clear promotion paths so high-potential engineers grow into tomorrow’s leaders.
- Harden delivery discipline. Institutionalize outcome-focused metrics, data-driven decisions, and post-launch accountability across all teams.
- Champion “first-team” mindset. Align Engineering, Product, Design, Data, Commercial, and Support around shared goals; resolve cross-functional friction fast.
- Own strategic outcomes. Lead critical product and technical initiatives and absorb scope delegated by the CTO.
Leadership behaviors and culture fit
- Outcome-oriented, process-driven execution. Make decisions that maximize business impact and sequence delivery for value. Design, implement, and iterate processes that optimize for outcomes and continuous improvement.
- Extreme ownership. You take end-to-end accountability and make problems yours to solve.
- Data-informed action. You pair intuition with evidence, champion experimentation, and retire sacred cows quickly.
- First-team mindset. You optimize for company-wide success over functional silos and build psychological safety across geographies.
Required qualifications
- 15+ years in software engineering, including 5+ years leading VPE/Director-level organizations of 50-200 engineers.
- Proven success scaling distributed teams and multiple EM/Director layers across time zones.
- Track record shipping high-traffic consumer or B2B platforms through hyper-growth, scale-up, or public-company stages.
- Fluency in cloud-native architectures; comfortable guiding teams working in Java, Go, TypeScript, iOS, and Android.
- AI fluency. Solid grasp of modern AI/ML concepts – especially LLM-powered capabilities – and experience guiding teams to integrate them into products and workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to embed measurable, outcome-oriented delivery practices.
Nice-to-have qualifications
- Domain expertise in travel, e-commerce, or other high-traffic consumer businesses.
- Experience launching and building B2C products for Arabic-speaking markets.
- Built or modernised dynamic pricing, revenue-management, or marketplace systems.
Compensation, perks and location
- Competitive comp package (base + performance bonus + equity).
- Full family medical + dental, and annual learning stipend.
- On-site, five-day work-week in our Singapore HQ. Regular travel to regional hubs (≈10-20%).
