POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides technical support to ensure suppliers' manufacturing and business processes are capable of delivering high quality products with on-time delivery.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and support all technical aspects of supplier selection by evaluating their capability and capacity to meet AE requirements through comprehensive technical assessments.

What You Will Be Doing
Program and support Hamilton liquid handlers (STAR, STARlet, and Vantage) and peripherals to support manufacturing areas and automate laboratory processes.
Develop, optimize, and validate liquid classes and integrate Hamilton liquid handlers.
Troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment, including Hamilton liquid handlers (codebase and hardware) and custom automation equipment.
Support Manufacturing areas, I.e. perform day-to-day routine equipment maintenance, troubleshoot and repair equipment, schedule calibration/preventative maintenance, organize lab operation processes, and support general lab activities along with the automation team to promote an efficient working environment
Support existing automation infrastructure with troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
Perform complex equipment repair and maintenance with focus on quality and safety. Able to find long term resolution to chronic equipment issues.
Analyze performance data and establish trends, identify errors and make improvements to systems to ensure reliability and improve yield.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree/master’s degree in Engineering, Life Science, Computer Science or equivalent.
3 years experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment, with a focus on automation and liquid handling.
Strong troubleshooting skills with demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve issues with industrial and laboratory equipment, specifically Hamilton liquid handlers.
Experience with liquid class development and peripheral integration for automated liquid handling systems.
Experience with life science instrumentation and processes.
Excellent organization and prioritization skills

This R&D Product Engineer opportunity is part of the Research and Development (R&D) Department of Xylem supporting design and development of new products, improvement of existing products, and sustaining engineering. An ideal candidate would be a self-starter with experience in mechanical design, analysis, material selection and testing, project management, data collection and analysis, and report writing. This candidate may also support installation, start-ups and field testing, troubleshooting products, repairs and maintenance to our water treatment equipment and products. There will also be hands-on work developing and executing test plans and communicating results in a timely manner. This position will support the factory/quality on performing issue root cause analysis to resolve performance related issues and propose solutions. Writing and resolving ECN as needed. This position will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, sales, vendors and product management personnel. Duties include part design, 3D CAD, component and material selection, qualification of new material/components, assembly design, and engineering documentation. The expectations are that we will work from a product roadmap from the product management team to drive growth and expansion of the product lines. This includes new product innovation, value engineering and sustaining, and product improvement.
Roles and Responsibilities
Part design, material selection, design analysis, design documentation
Product design, development, testing, validation/qualification
Lead product troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause analysis
Manage projects or sub projects including timelines and budgets and work in an interdisciplinary team
Lead and guide engineers/technicians priority, workload, technical understanding
Write Standard Operating Procedures SOPs, test plans, and reports
Optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, and reliability/performance
Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field required with 5+ years professional experience preferred. Masters degree is preferred.
Hands-on work in a research and development environment including experience in piping and plumbing and water treatment technologies
Experience with water (i) electro-membrane separation technologies across water treatment applications; (ii) the use of electrochemical technologies for the removal of specific contaminants in water is a bonus
Bill of Materials (BOM) generation, and engineering change process and documentation
Project management experience (including budgeting/scheduling) and working in an interdisciplinary team preferred
2D and 3D CAD and part design and documentation. Autodesk inventor software is preferred
Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems is preferred
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
Proficient Microsoft Office Suite and quick to learn new software
5S and safety‐first mindset, ability to follow all safety rules and wear all required safety equipment (PPE)
