Lead Solar and BESS Projects

Our organization seeks a skilled professional to lead the execution of solar projects, including procurement and supervision of subcontractors. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and executing rooftop solar PV systems, as well as expertise in battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct thorough testing and commissioning of BESS to ensure compliance with design specifications and performance requirements.
• Perform system integration tests with inverters, transformers, and protection systems.
• Carry out functional, safety, and performance testing, including grid compliance verification.
• Troubleshoot issues during commissioning and provide engineering solutions.
• Prepare detailed test reports and commissioning documentation.

Requirements:

• At least 2 years of experience in designing and executing rooftop solar PV systems.
• Proven experience in running projects and leading teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of AutoCAD and other design software.
• Experience with project management and procurement.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong energy and project management background that enables them to engage with both internal business partners and external energy stakeholders. They will demonstrate an ability to think strategically about our business, our technical challenges and have a skill-set to drive tactical execution of contracts, energy initiatives and team goals. By establishing and growing business and technical relationships, and managing the day-to-day interactions with these partners, you will be responsible for meeting the energy team objectives to support AWS's infrastructure expansion in the ASEAN region.
This role is based out of Singapore. 15% travel may be required.
Key job responsibilities
- Manage the interconnection of AWS data centers in the region to the electric grid by working with utilities and local authorities to ensure on time, on budget and to specifications MV & HV transmission works & substation delivery.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Planning, Real estate, Design, Procurement, Construction, Operations, Finance & Commissioning teams to coordinate project activities and resolve any issues that may arise during project execution.
- Provide regular project updates to senior management and stakeholders, including progress reports, financial updates, region strategy documents and risk assessments.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including power utilities, regulators, suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
- Undertake power due diligence for new or proposed data center sites to check power availability and feasibility.
- Interface with power utilities and regulatory bodies to obtain necessary approvals and permits for project implementation.
- Managing utility contracts/retail agreements - entering into connection agreement; contracting the right capacity to optimize on power purchase costs.
- Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objective.
- Study, understand and have view on regional power infrastructure network and utility planning and changes to the broader power infrastructure.
- Manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure improvements.
- Identify and develop innovative cost savings projects and initiatives related to power infrastructure and supply.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) required in Engineering/Business or other technical field.
- 4 plus years working in utility/renewables/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role.
- 2 plus years of managing multiple million dollar infrastructure projects with external stakeholders to drive projects to completion
- Experience in budgeting and analyzing cost/benefit trade-offs across a strategic portfolio.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to manage complex and/or multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, strong organization, time management, and problem-solving skills capable of building strategic working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in one of project management, planning, engineering, developing or constructing substations or other 20kV or greater energy infrastructure.
- High level technical understanding of MV & HV Transmission Line and substation, with a familiarity of local ASEAN grid codes, grid connectivity procedures, grid application procedures and roles and responsibilities, standards of performance of Distribution / Transmission Utilities.
- Experience working directly with power utilities and other energy regulators.
- Experience successfully negotiating new tariff rates, power purchase agreements and/or energy infrastructure contracts in regulatory regimes.
- Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers and cloud services.
- Ability to self-start and self-motivate in a dynamic environment with partial information and high levels of ambiguity which requires looking around corners to deliver results for the business.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist Building Manager in the daily operations.

• Supervise, plan and organize a team of on-site contractors in carrying out planned and ad-hoc maintenance works.

• Investigate, check and analyse reported breakdowns & faults to determine their cause for the prevention of future occurrences.

• Supervise upgrading projects, if required

• Carry out regular inspection to the facilities and systems and ensure their functionality and reliability.

• Communicate well in English (both spoken and written) and is expected to establish good working rapport with stakeholders.

• Ensure contractors carry out works in accordance with contract requirements, including evaluation of contractors’ performance and review of contract specifications.

• Follow up with term contractors on defects rectification after servicing work.
