The
Senior Director of Packaging Development
will champion our mission to build, enhance and protect superior consumer packaging experiences in the APAC region. This role is responsible for working cross-functionally to develop the APAC packaging strategy, align on a robust packaging innovation and sustainability pipeline that meets global and regional business objectives, support business continuity, build a high performing team of packaging leaders and ensure project execution with excellence.
The Senior Director of Packaging Development will lead the packaging development teams in Tokyo and Shanghai Technical Centers. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing new packaging technologies, aligning cross-functional leaders on an innovation strategy, and leading a dynamic team to execute a large portfolio of projects.
What You’ll Do For Us
Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership on developing a pipeline of packaging design and technologies from ideation to commercialization. Use advanced understanding of packaging materials, production processes, sustainability, and cutting-edge technologies to develop innovative solutions. Strong knowledge of industry trends and an ability to adopt new technology to ensure our packaging remains at the forefront of sustainability and innovation.
Innovation and Sustainability: Network with the global packaging R&D community to identify, assess, and bring packaging innovation opportunities inside to support business growth. Lead in environmentally friendly packaging innovations and ensure compliance with local regulations and company standards.
Visionary Thinking: Articulate a future state for packaging to deliver our sustainability goals and business objectives. Lead the team in thinking beyond current limitations to explore new and innovative packaging solutions.
Strategic Leadership: Work cross-functionally to align key stakeholders on strategic plans that deliver the company’s vision for the future of packaging. Lead the development of compelling business cases for new packages, using scientific, consumer, and business data. Build and motivate the technical resources to deliver these ambitions.
Team Leadership: Build and motivate a high-performing team of technical packaging leaders and SMEs. Foster a team environment that leads to growth behavior, development of people, and supports responsible decision-making.
Stakeholder Engagement: Shape and inspire technical strategy by developing excellent rapport with colleagues and earning status as a recognized expert. Build partnership relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, universities, research institutes, and innovation agencies. Understand system needs and capabilities to appropriately influence packaging innovation decisions. Negotiate and enforce as necessary technical requirements with supply chain, bottlers and suppliers.
Global Mindset: Cultivate a global perspective within the team by building rapport at all levels with our global network. Leverage the global system to drive scale and fast adoption of new technologies.
Compliance and Intellectual Property: Ensure all packaging initiatives comply with safety and regulatory affairs. Maintain a clear understanding of intellectual property laws and patent interpretation to protect our innovations.
Budget Management: Manage the packaging development budget effectively.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Packaging Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
15+ years of relevant experience, with 3-5+ years leading projects or teams, preferably with global or regional packaging development responsibilities.
Strong leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Demonstrated ability to innovate and think strategically.
Excellent communication skills and a global mindset.
Basic understanding of safety and regulatory affairs.
Clear understanding of intellectual property laws and patent interpretation.
Fluent in English.

+ Development of lab scale prototypes, producing pilot plans for both beverage-based parts and final products.

+ Designs, develops, conducts and/or reviews experiments at laboratory to deliver on ideation, innovation and business continuity initiatives by evaluating ingredients, materials, products, and processes.

+ Writes detailed & accurate reports for analyses, experiments, or projects.  Gathers and organizes information under tight timelines to support senior management's decision-making. 
+ Participates in team projects, cross-functional committees, or company-wide initiatives to share information, represent the department/division perspective or assist with product development, process modification, package development and marketing. 
+ Works on product development projects assigned by line manager from idea generation to formula finalization through close discussion and alignment with Technical and Marketing team and all other stakeholders.
+ Supports lab administration, including managing material inventories, overseeing equipment maintenance, coordinating with suppliers, and handling order management to ensure seamless operations. 
+ Maintains laboratory equipment and instrumentation (e.g., troubleshooting, conducting preventative maintenance, calibrating, and repairing). Maintain cleanliness of labs and storage areas.
+ Contributes to innovation efforts by gathering and analyzing local market insights that inform the innovation strategy and drive business growth.

**Qualifications & Requirements**
+ Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related field is required. Master's degree is preferred.
+ Possess 2-5 years of successful experience and knowledge of product development in FMCG Industry, preferably in food and beverage.
+ Preferred product development experience in beverage categories including food ingredients, flavors, concentrates and beverage bases.
+ Basic knowledge of the organic chemistry of essential oils and other flavor compounds that is relevant to Company products along with the basic knowledge and ability to apply flavor manufacturing and the processes used such as distillation, extraction, and blending are needed.
+ Must possess knowledge of key ingredients used in production of flavors, concentrates and beverage bases.
+ Must have moderate knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote) and online solutions (Teams, SharePoint, Power Apps).

The Singapore office functions as a key innovation and development centre, supporting product creation, compliance, and technology initiatives for multiple international markets.

With continued growth and regional expansion, the company is seeking an experienced Product Development Team Lead to play a pivotal role in strengthening its R&D capability.

About the Role

The Product Development Lead will oversee a small team to conceptualize, test, and launch new products that align with quality standards and market needs.

This position blends technical expertise in formulation and product innovation with strategic leadership and cross-functional collaboration, offering strong exposure to international projects and long-term career advancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of product development professionals to achieve successful project outcomes.
  • Develop and execute product development strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Manage the full product lifecycle — from concept development to production scale-up.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory, QA, and Marketing teams to ensure compliance and product readiness.
  • Optimize formulations for quality, performance, and consumer appeal.
  • Monitor emerging trends and technologies relevant to the FMCG sector.
  • Liaise with external stakeholders such as suppliers and research partners as needed.

Requirements

  • Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in product development, preferably in the food or FMCG sector.
  • Proven leadership ability to guide and motivate a small technical team.
  • Strong background in finished product development and commercialization.
  • Familiarity with formulation processes and sensory evaluation techniques.
  • Effective communication and project coordination skills.
  • Comfortable reading technical materials and communicating with Mandarin-speaking counterparts.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for short business assignments (around one week per month).
