Role Summary
As a Data Privacy Specialist, you will be an integral part of a growing and dynamic team, supporting the organization in meeting its global and regional data protection obligations. Based in Singapore, you will play a key role in implementing and monitoring the Group's Global Privacy Strategy across the APAC regions including Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, working in close collaboration with the London and US based Privacy Team.
This role offers strong support and professional development opportunities through on-the-job learning, cross-training, internal and external training program, and task rotation. You will work alongside experienced privacy professionals across multiple jurisdictions, gaining valuable exposure to global privacy operations.
This is a hands-on role focused on extending and operationalizing the Group's GDPR-based privacy framework in APAC, starting with business-as-usual operations in Singapore and progressively expanding to Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and other jurisdictions, while ensuring compliance with local privacy laws. Key responsibilities include managing third-party risk through due diligence and contract support, incident management, maintaining accurate records of processing activities, and supporting the delivery and monitoring of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs). The role also involves responding to privacy-related enquiries, advising stakeholders on regional data protection requirements, supporting data subject rights requests and breach investigations, delivering staff training, and drafting and maintaining privacy policies and governance documentation. You will also contribute to the development, implementation, and oversight of regional privacy controls, helping to embed a strong culture of data protection within the business.
Accountabilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Develop, maintain, and enhance data protection policies and procedures to foster a culture of privacy compliance across the Group.

Airwallex is looking for a seasoned data and privacy legal lawyer to join our Data & Privacy team. You will report to our US-based Director of Data & Privacy and lead responsibility for all data and privacy legal and regulatory matters (including AI-related issues) in APAC. You will support a complex set of fintech products and an increasing array of AI tools that will challenge your problem solving and critical thinking skills. Minimum qualifications:

8-12 years of experience in an in-house legal department and/or in private practice advising on data and privacy issues related to technical platforms and products
Extensive experience with major data privacy regimes in APAC (e.g., PDPA, PIPL, APPI), with a solid understanding of other global regimes, particularly GDPR and US privacy law.
Fluent in Mandarin and English; strong written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities
Provide privacy legal advice and day-to-day support required to Tencent’s global businesses.
Advise on compliance across all aspects of global privacy laws and regulations, including data protection, data security and data breach rules.
Develop and implement program to facilitate compliance with international data privacy and personal information collection rules, regulations and standards, including the GDPR, CCPA and PDPO/ PDPA.
Manage outside counsel for all privacy law projects.
Draft, review, negotiate and administer legal and commercial documentations.
Analyse global privacy legal requirements and oversee keep our stakeholders abreast of all new privacy laws and regulations that may have implications to Tencent.
Requirements
Common law qualified lawyer with at least 4 years PQE, including at a law firm and/or in-house experience.
Able to work independently but work well in a team environment.
CIPP/E, CIPP/US and CIPM certifications are preferred but not mandatory.
Experience in dealing with privacy issues relating to international businesses. Experience in the design and implementation of a global privacy compliance program is a plus.
Strong interest in the internet and cloud service space.
Track record in problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
Proactive approach and able to handle matters independently.
Sound interpersonal and communication skills.
Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin) to interact with stakeholders in China HQ and other regions
