Business Intelligence (BI) Manager, APAC

Job Overview

The BI Manager will be responsible for interpreting and analysing results as well as the delivery of a new high profile Microsoft Power BI solution, and develop the data processes, reporting, dashboards and data visualisations to meet the data analysis requirements of the business. Thereafter, be responsible for the continual improvement and administration of the Power BI system and related data infrastructure.

The successful candidate will be the BI champion - well versed in effectively promoting the benefits of BI across the business to deliver a mind-set change. This role requires ongoing engagement with directors, department heads, key managers and stakeholders, as well as managing relationships with external trusted partners involved in delivering a Business Intelligence solution with high data quality to align with business strategic objective.

This is a key role which involves determining project needs and resources to deliver the technical and functional requirements for the plan, as well as ensuring budget and deadline expectations are met and resources managed efficiently.

Summary of Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Analysis

  • Interpret data, analyse results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.
  • Develop and implement databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimise statistical efficiency and quality.
  • Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources and maintain databases/data systems.
  • Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Filter and "clean" data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
  • Work with management to prioritise business and information needs.
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.

Project Implementation

  • Assist in the development and management of Power BI implementations, objectives, project scope, business objectives, with an overarching focus on customer experience.
  • Utilisation of previous hands-on experience with Power BI projects, facilitating workshops to challenge current business thinking; ensuring BI is implemented with the best-in-class processes and approaches.
  • Determine project needs and business resources required to execute the BI project successfully.
  • Develop data governance to manage data sources, data processing and data quality.
  • Work as partner with business owners to understand business requirements and data requirements, and using the Power BI tool to deliver BI reporting, dashboards, data visualisation etc.
  • Define the data and reporting specifications. Manage and control related documents for Power BI system standardisation.
  • Develop and manage the data warehouse, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), and data schedule which are hosted in Azure PaaS and data centres.
  • Support SQL server Database running, manage the database log, performance and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot data and report issues and provide the resolution to support the business to get accurate data and report results.
  • Work closely with the Group BI team (UK) and the APAC regional BI team and roll out the Group standard Power BI solution to meet local business demands.
  • Work with vendors and third-party data providers to ensure seamless integration of external data into internal systems, maintaining data quality, consistency, and licensing compliance.

Training, Collaboration & Change Management

  • Develop the internal Power BI course and training materials. Regularly provide high quality training for business owners, key users, and end users in the region.
  • Budget, supplier and stakeholder management.
  • Identification and communication of risks and mitigating actions and conducting readiness assessments.
  • Regular communication of project progress to sponsor, project teams and the leadership group.
  • Collaborate with Group and external suppliers to build/manage relationships.
  • Act as an agent of change - drive and coach behaviour change in our businesses to maximise value and adoption of the systems.
  • Can identify and design localisations, workarounds, and enhancements required to meet customer needs.
  • Serves as an internal subject matter expert and supports all company activities including but not limited to BI system implementations, integrations, and process consultations.
  • Power BI tenant administration
  • Work with 13 countries across various APAC time zones, as well as UK teams.

Required Skills

  • Degree in a related field and 5-8 years of experience in Microsoft Power BI, SQL server database (include SSRS and SSIS), Microsoft Azure Cloud and Python.
  • Proven working experience as a Data Analyst or Business Data Analyst.
  • Deep experience in Power BI with in-depth SQL coding experience with recent versions of SQL server.
  • Experienced in the successful implementation of end-to-end Power BI, data warehouse and ETL, including integration with JD Edwards & Dynamics 365 ERP, CRM and other business systems.
  • Understand the data warehouse, data mart and data model.
  • Knowledge in developing automated reports, dashboards, and data visualisation using Power BI.

  • Experience creating calculated measures and columns with DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) in Power BI desktop.

  • Proven experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate and Power Apps)
  • Strong understanding of workflow design, process automation and system integration.

Technical skills

The Data Governance AD is responsible for overseeing and implementing NLB's data governance strategy, to ensure that NLB's data capture, fusion and usage are reliable, secure, and of high quality, and to chart, document and iterate NLB's overall data model.

Beyond the Data Office, you will work closely with the Technology Services Group (TSG) to develop the tools needed to effectively monitor the reliability and accuracy of our data.

The role also involves working with all NLB departments to establish and maintain data governance policies, procedures, and standards. You will be involved in upstream procurement, helping business users to scope their data requirements, as well as evaluating the capabilities of prospective vendors to to provide NLB with data necessary for operations, reporting, and analytics. You will also work closely with the eventual appointed vendors and TSG to ensure the accurate and timely transfer of data to the organization's data warehouse.

What you will be working on

  1. Data Privacy -& Protection:

  2. Implement IM8 data privacy policies and procedures to protect sensitive information.

  3. Conduct annual data risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential data privacy risks e.g. Privacy Impact Assessments.
  4. Collaborate with the IT department to implement and maintain appropriate data security controls and data encryption measures.
  5. Train employees on data classification, privacy best practices and raise awareness about the importance of personal data protection.

  6. Data Quality and Vendor Management:

  7. Work closely with colleagues across various departments to understand their data requirements. and translate those data requirements into procurement-related requirements and specifications.

  8. Work with data engineer to develop data ingestion that supports data catalog and data lineage.
  9. Work closely with vendors to establish data transfer processes and agreements that meet the organization's data quality, analytics and security needs.
  10. Provide guidance and support to colleagues in their interactions with vendors to resolve data quality issues and improve data capture processes with reference to IM8 and data strategy by CDO.

  11. Data Governance Framework Implementation

  12. Maintain existing data governance framework that have clearly defined roles, responsibilities, policies, and procedures for managing data across the organization.

  13. Provide secretariat support to data governance committee and working groups to foster collaboration and decision-making on data-related issues.
  14. Assist the committee in data lifecycle management processes, including data creation, storage, sharing, archiving, and disposal

  15. Data Architecture and Data Flow:

  16. Map data collection points e.g. where data are capture and determine the data is sufficient to support operation and analytics needs.

  17. Ensure the setup of data transfer mechanisms and documentation comprising data dictionaries, metadata repositories, and other documentation (each maintained by respective responsible parties) to ensure a clear understanding of data definitions, lineage, and relationships.
  18. Work with data leads and subject matter experts to ensure the consistent application of data governance policies and standards across systems and processes

  19. Continuous Improvement:

  20. Monitor and measure the effectiveness of data governance initiatives and keep data inventories for improvements.
    Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in data governance and security and- these on data retention so that the data is managed consistently and reliably.

  21. Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and promote the value of data as a strategic asset throughout the organization.

What we are looking for

  • Good understanding of data governance, data systems and data models. Preferably a Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), CIPM (Certified Information Privacy Manager), CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional), CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional), or data governance related qualifications.
  • Practical experience in data governance / management
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related role
  • Strong experience with data protection & privacy, metadata management, and data warehousing concepts
  • Solid understanding of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices
  • Commitment to communicate and educate colleagues on these principles, frameworks and best practices so as to advance the data maturity of the organisation as a whole.
  • In-depth knowledge of data security regulations and standards, such as PDPA, Public Sector Governance Act, IM8, DAMA-DMBOK, ISO 27001:2013, ISO :2017 or COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies).
  • Familiarity with data quality management techniques and tools
  • Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills
  • A mindset of constant investigation, curiosity, and pushing for incremental gains of all kinds.

The Business Intelligence Team sits within the CEO Office as a Strategy & Transformation function within Dyson. The role is accountable for the operational leadership on the assigned product categories within the business.
The position is also accountable for driving strategic decision making through Competitor, Product, Technology & Market Intelligence across all stakeholder groups. Highlighting holistic and strategic analysis to leverage intelligence assessments for Dyson to create and protect market leading products and supporting senior leaders shape category and business strategies.

Deliver a platform of Intelligence that services RDD, Business Unit & Legal project to enable strategic decision making.
