What you will be working on:
What the role is: To lead the Institute of Judicial Studies (IJS), the Singapore Judicial College’s research arm. The IJS was established as part of the restructured SJC in March 2024. It is the research arm of SJC and is overseen by the Dean of SJC. Its primary responsibility is to undertake, lead and facilitate rigorous multi-method research on a wide range of issues relevant to the judiciary, including judicial education and training. The IJS will enable SJC to engage in research activities that align with its strategic goals, address knowledge gaps, identify emerging trends in judicial education, and establish academic partnerships and collaborations to ensure SJC remains at the forefront of judicial education globally. Presently, no other agency or entity in Singapore undertakes judicial education research. The selected candidate will work with the Dean of SJC to develop and implement the IJS’s research priorities and strategic plan and will be expected to undertake high-quality research on judicial education and the justice system. They will be expected to:
- Lead and drive SJC’s research initiatives in judicial education
- Establish collaborations with researchers across allied disciplines on inter-disciplinary research projects relating to judicial education and the justice system
- Publish research outputs in domestic and international publications, including peer-reviewed journals, books, and online research engagement platforms
- Develop research-led judicial training programmes and SJC’s online research repository

- Professional law degree, e.g., Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor
- Postgraduate qualification in law is preferred
- At least 15 years of relevant experience in high-quality academic research, research leadership, collaboration, supervision, and strategy development
