Started in 1935, Tamil Murasu is Singapore's only Tamil-language newspaper. Tamil Murasu is the main information source for the Tamil-speaking Indian community with its coverage of wide-ranging news, from current affairs to local and foreign news as well as the latest in sports and entertainment, in addition to its strong coverage on news from the Indian community and the sub-continent.

Tabla, the Tamil Murasu's English language weekly tabloid started in 2008, is a free weekly English-language newspaper published every Friday in Singapore. It also has a website that publishes news daily. It is aimed at the wider Indian community of Singapore as well as the Indian diaspora. It provides a mix of local and Indian news relevant to the community.

As a Copy Editor /Sub Editor for tabla, you will create, edit, and proofread content for both our digital and print platforms. You will write Singapore stories with an Indian flavour and review and edit the editorial content for accuracy. You will also be tasked with doing simple page design and layout.

Job Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree or above in relevant fields.
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in an editorial capacity is required.
  • Excellent command of English and strong writing skills.
  • Able to copyedit fast and accurately.
  • Must have a nose for interesting information and trending news.
  • Knowledge of multi-platform news-gathering tools and resources.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
  • Willingness to work on shifts, weekends/public holidays.
  • Being effectively bilingual or multilingual would be an asset.

The Role

Proofreading reports produced largely in our Asian offices for spelling and grammatical errors, and working with our consultants/analysts to ensure corrections are incorporated into the final document.


Job Requirements

· Minimum undergraduate or post-graduate qualification in English Linguistics/Literature/Writing, Journalism, or related discipline.

· 0-2 years experience. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.

· Excellent attention to detail.

· Fluent (written and verbal) in English with excellent interpersonal skills.

· Proven track record of providing copy editing services in a similar business environment is a plus.

· Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be highly organised.

· Experience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Confident and clear communication style.

· Interest or knowledge of the oil and gas energy sectors would be an advantage.

· Willing to work collaboratively in support of the team whilst simultaneously carrying out independent editing tasks.

· Candidate must be legally entitled to work in Singapore.


Job Responsibilities

· Making sure the formatting of our reports, projects, and presentations adheres to our in-house brand and style guides.

· Re-working content, where necessary, to ensure it flows correctly.

· Fact-checking content, where necessary, with the help of our team of consultants/analysts.

· Must be able to work with content on multiple platforms, including digital/web and print-based.

· Working with the Marketing and Editing teams to update and revise the existing style and branding guides.

· You will also be required to carry out any other duties which may reasonably be required of you, including similar editing support.
