Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Executive with strong engineering underwriting expertise and SME Property & Casualty (P&C)knowledge to join our Direct & Japanese Corporate team. This role is responsible for underwriting, portfolio management, and business development to drive profitable growth, while also mentoring junior staff and supporting operational improvements. Japanese language skills are not required. The position reports to the Assistant Manager (or higher) and works closely with peers, internal departments, regional offices, and reinsurers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Underwriting & Portfolio Management: Review, evaluate, and approve engineering and SME P&C risks within delegated authority, ensuring alignment with underwriting guidelines, profitability targets, and risk appetite.
- Client & Business Development: Identify and cultivate new business opportunities, maintain and strengthen relationships with direct and Japanese corporate clients, and provide technical insurance advice to meet client needs.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with MSI Japan, MSIG Asia, overseas business units, and reinsurers to coordinate underwriting matters, claims, and policy wording recommendations.
- Staff Development: Supervise, mentor, and coach junior underwriters, enhancing their technical skills, product knowledge, and market understanding.
- Operational Improvement: Participate in company-level projects to improve underwriting processes, implement effective credit control and bad debt recovery, and contribute to the continuous enhancement of departmental efficiency.
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned to support business objectives.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in the general insurance industry.
- Relevant insurance qualifications (minimum CGI & HI).
- Strong technical knowledge in engineering underwriting and SME P&C insurance.
- Proven business development and portfolio management skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Business acumen with the ability to balance growth and risk.
- Results-driven with a collaborative approach.

Assist the Head and work with own Team Leader and members to:
• Review and prepare underwriting / renewal information
• Prepare Marine Raters for discussion with Team Leader / Head.
• Underwrite simpler risk and maintain a profitable book of Marine Cargo business.
• Prepare quotation slips after finalization with Team Leader / Head

• Ensure evaluation of facultative reinsurance needs and coordination as necessary within company underwriting and risk control guidelines.
• Stay current on competition, underwriting environment, and market conditions and to share findings and updates with all members of the team as appropriate.
Requirements:
• At least 2 years’ experience in Marine insurance underwriting with direct intermediary engagement / technical underwriting.
• Good knowledge of Marine insurance operations, underwriting procedures and understanding in Marine Cargo classes, products and policy wordings.
• Good understanding of risk assessment, laws and legislation in relation to the marine insurance industry.
