Job Title: Laboratory Assistant - Medical Technologist

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our laboratory team as a Junior/Medical Technologist. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine test procedures, maintaining quality control standards, and assisting in training new personnel.

• Conduct automated or manual test procedures with minimal supervision, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in results.
• Assist in onboarding new team members, providing guidance and support in their role.
• Monitor and maintain inventory levels, reporting any discrepancies to section managers.
• Analyze daily QC results, identifying areas for improvement and collaborating with section managers to address issues.
• Evaluate instrument performance, promptly reporting any problems or malfunctions.
• Adhere to regulatory guidelines, participating in proficiency testing to ensure compliance.

• Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent qualification.
• At least one year of experience in a related medical laboratory setting.

Job Description

Supports the laboratory technical staff in the areas of specimen processing, and procurement and may perform lab testing under the direct supervision of medical technologists.

1. Follow all laboratory protocols and policies in checking specimens (e.g. COVID, blood, stool, urine, etc) received & make sure that names tally with the request forms for testing.
2. Follow test requirements of reference laboratory & procure appropriate specimens for testing.
3. Perform barcoding samples & process laboratory specimens received from patients under prescribed laboratory guidelines.
4. Utilizes centrifuges & other lab equipment to process specimens & prepares them for testing.
5. Receives requested stock items & distributes them to the appropriate place within the laboratory.

Job Requirements:

• Minimum N-Level
• Relevant work experience in a medical laboratory environment. (Candidates without experience are welcome to apply)
• Able to start work immediately.
• Able to work 5.5 days/week + Rotational shifts (Including weekends and rostered PH).
• Responsible team player with a positive work attitude & supportive of operational needs.

The main duty of a lab assistant is to support the professional lab technologist in collecting specimens, preparing them for analysis, and running routine lab tests. As a lab assistant, you may test blood, urine, tissue, and other bodily substances.

Job Description:

• Receive laboratory specimens and reject those that are unsuitable for analysis.
• Opening and booking of samples received.
• Sort and label samples/forms in the laboratory.
• Scanning and sorting of request forms.
• Using Laboratory Information System to perform functions such as result query, order entry and result entry.
• Housekeeping of laboratory, equipment and machineries.
• Assist in laboratory duties such as maintaining inventory, including laboratory cleaning and clearing of Bio-hazardous waste
• Cleaning and maintaining work area and all lab equipment and supplies
• Ensure SOP and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) is implemented.
• Any other administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:

• ITE Certificate in Biotechnology.
• 1 to 2 years of experience preferably in Medical Laboratory Industries.
• Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
• Able and willing to maintain a strict level of confidentiality regarding laboratory results and records
• Excellent computer skills
• Team player

Work Schedule:

5.5-day work week

Monday to Friday: 9.30 am to 6.00 pm

Saturday: 9.30 am to 2.00 pm

Above operational hours will change according to operation requirements.

• Comfortable with working shift (estimate 15 working days per month).

You will assist in the smooth running of Science and STEM laboratories by supporting students and teachers in investigative projects, ensuring safe lab practices and facilitating engaging, hands-on learning experiences. The Laboratory Assistant is expected to maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders and external vendors for laboratory readiness and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist teachers in the daily management and operations of the Science lab, including preparation and maintenance of materials and equipment for practical classes to ensure practical work is conducted smoothly and efficiently.
• Ensure safety procedures, records and protocols in compliance with government and school regulations.
• Maintain responsibility for inventory and stock-taking of lab materials and new supplies.
• Assist Laboratory Technician and Manager in budget formulation, requisition and administration of stocks.
• Coordinate with Laboratory Manager and Science/STEM teachers for lab and curriculum needs and Estate for the daily upkeeping of the laboratories.
• Provide guidance during lessons and/or CCA to ensure students are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge for safe and successful experiments.
• Liaise with external vendors and partners on laboratory checks, asset management, and service support.

Requirements

• Possess a Diploma in Science discipline.
• Possess good interpersonal and First Aid certification skills.
• Able to work independently and conscientiously.
• Preferably good knowledge in Biology/ Chemistry/ Physics.
