The Chartering Manager – Dry Bulk is responsible for managing and executing the chartering of dry bulk vessels (Handysize to Supramax) on spot and period contracts. This role involves negotiating freight rates, optimizing vessel utilization, managing relationships with brokers and clients, and staying informed of dry bulk market trends to maximize profitability.

• Source cargoes and match with suitable tonnage (owned or chartered).
• Negotiate and fix dry bulk vessels on voyage, time, or contract of affreightment (COA) basis.
• Handle pre- and post-fixture activities to ensure smooth execution.
• Draft, review, and finalize charter party agreements (e.g., GENCON , NYPE , SYNACOMEX , etc.).

• Track global dry bulk markets, focusing on commodities like coal, iron ore, grains, bauxite, and fertilizers.
• Analyze freight trends, vessel supply/demand, bunker prices, and port congestion.
• Use data to provide freight forecasts and identify strategic opportunities.

• Develop and maintain relationships with cargo owners, traders, shipowners, and chartering brokers.
• Represent the company in chartering meetings, industry events, and networking platforms (e.g., Baltic Exchange ).
• Liaise with shipbrokers to secure competitive rates and reliable tonnage.

• Work closely with operations, legal, and finance teams to ensure proper voyage execution.
• Resolve operational disputes or claims arising from charter parties.
• Monitor vessel performance and voyage profitability metrics.

• Maintain accurate records of fixtures, voyage data, and freight invoices.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly chartering reports for management.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and industry standards.

• Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Trade, Logistics, or related field.
• 5+ years of hands-on chartering experience in dry bulk shipping.
• Strong knowledge of dry bulk vessel types, cargoes, and trade routes. Preferably Pacific/ SE Asia Trade would be advantangeous
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Familiarity with charter party clauses and shipping contracts.
• Ability to assess risks and make quick commercial decisions.
• Proficiency with maritime software (e.g., IMOS, Baltic Exchange tools, Excel, Netpass).

• Established network of dry bulk cargo interests and vessel owners.
• Multilingual skills are a plus (especially for dealing with global clients).

We are looking for a Chartering Manager with 2+ years of experience in the maritime industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the commercial operations of the fleet, including the negotiation of charter parties, fixing of cargoes, and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Calculate and evaluate open market business for the bulk cargo such as Handy/ Supramax / Panamax on voyage and/or T/C basis.
• Develop the relation with the shipper and trader of grain, coal, minerals and other bulk cargo.
• Conclude and execute best business in line with management guidance and targets.

Functions and accountabilities

1) Sourcing cargoes / employment

• Communicate constantly with customers and brokers. Collect market information
• Seek for shipment which match the company fleet
• Conclude business independently within price guidance from management team.

2)Securing shipment

• Calculate and execute business accurately and efficiently
• Negotiate shipping terms
• Identify and develop arbitrage opportunities which can add value to the book
• Recognize and understanding all voyage pricing constituents – port costs, bunker costs, daily TCE etc
• Recognize and understand all port restrictions and specific ‘country’ requirements for the various trades– port drafts, LOA restrictions, beam restrictions, terms of trade

3)Trade and relationship management

• Develop and expand relationships with customers and brokers
• Build up customer network by travelling and meeting.
• identify new trends, cargo routes, mines, potential new customers.

4) office functions

• Communicate with the operation department to ensure a smooth operation of voyages
• Challenge assumptions to maximise the efficiency of sea voyages (routing / slow steaming)
• Document correctly all negotiations
• Manage in conjunction with the finance department freight calculation and payments, and the concerned document are prepared accurately and communicated in a timely manner to customers

5) Management reporting and Procedures and Standards

• Strictly implement procedures for executing fixtures / monitoring and reporting on vessel performances / communicate underlying variances
• Strictly enforcing operating procedures in order to comply with the highest standards in the company
• Assist with preparation of weekly and monthly management reporting

Requirements

• Diploma/ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
• 2+ years of dry bulk chartering, Familiar with the marketing of Bulk cargo is preferred
• To possess strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
• Good relationship with the shipper and trader of grain, coal, minerals, and other bulk cargo is preferred.
• Demonstrated business math and intermediate computer skills with MS Office skillsets
• To have Class 3 driving licence and own vehicle is preferred
