The Clinical Coding Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining high-quality Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) coding standards. This role oversees daily coding operations, clinical coding audits, staff development, project management, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure clinical coding accurately reflects the institution’s clinical efforts and enables optimum reimbursement.

• Develop and deliver clinical coding training programmes and materials to upskills clinical coders in handling ophthalmology cases of varying complexity and support continuing education
• Manage manpower allocation, workload distribution and operational processes to ensure smooth daily coding operations
• Collaborate effectively with clinicians and other stakeholders to resolve coding-related issues
• Lead and support departmental improvement projects and initiatives
• Oversee departmental assets and support downtime management planning to ensure operational readiness
• Foster team cohesiveness and promote a culture of continuous improvement and high standards in coding practice

• Degree in Medical Science, Allied Health Science, or equivalent
• At least 3 years of experience in clinical coding and audit, and at least 1 year in staff supervision
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (Pivot Table, VLOOKUP) and PowerPoint
• Skilled in data analysis, dashboard reporting, administration, people management, and project management
• Strong command in English and sound knowledge in medical terminology
• Organized, resourceful, meticulous, analytical, and performance driven

Job Title: Clinical Coding Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Coding Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate and timely coding of patients' clinical information, ensuring compliance with international standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Oversee the smooth flow of case notes that require coding.
2. Ensure confidentiality of cases notes in Health Information Management Service.
3. Check and code patients' conditions and care delivered, as documented in patients' case notes.
4. Code patients' conditions and care delivered with compliance to ICD10AM (Australia Coding Standard, ACS).
5. Ensure accuracy in coding as according to information derived from patients' case notes.
6. Advise on relevant usage of diagnosis codes upon enquires.
7. Ensure compliance with clinical coding guidelines.
8. Upload coded data monthly, to Ministry of Health.
9. Carry out weekly audits for yearly submission to Ministry of Health.
10. Provide timely coding on DRGs to Business Office for data verification on bill size annually.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in medicine, Nursing or Health Science or equivalent
2. Candidate should preferably have a Certificate in ICD-10-Am coding or at least minimum a year of relevant medical coding experience in a local hospital setting
3. A target-oriented team player with initiative and positive work attitude
4. Meticulous with strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ICD-10-AM coding is preferred

Location: Kent Ridge (Hospital Setting)

Contract Type: 1-Year Contract (Renewable) / Direct Permanent

Salary: Up to $5,000/month

Working Hours: Office Hours, 5 days per week

• Review inpatient case notes to ensure completeness and accuracy of documentation
• Assign ICD codes and procedure codes according to coding standards and guidelines
• Ensure coding quality meets govt and international requirements
• Liaise with clinicians and care teams for clarification of diagnoses and procedures
• Perform coding audits and support data analysis for reporting purposes
• Contribute to coding improvement projects and provide feedback to enhance documentation quality
• Any other ad hoc duties as assigned by supervisor/manager

• Degree-qualified Registered Nurse
• Inpatient ward experience (preferred: multi-disciplinary wards such as General Surgery / Operating Theatre)
• Familiarity with coding standards and healthcare documentation requirements
