Job Description
Methodist Welfare Services (MWS) is all about empowering people to have life to the full.
We are a non-profit organisation serving people across all ethnicities and religions. We recognise that the people we serve may experience poverty in different ways – weak social support or fractured relationships, poor health, a sense of hopelessness, or a lack of means. We journey alongside them to uncover their inherent strengths, affirm them, and support them holistically towards a better life. While MWS' sphere of impact has expanded since our founding, our core spirit of social holiness remains unwavering. Today, we serve over 22,000 beneficiaries, including children from disadvantaged backgrounds, youths at risk, families in distress, socially isolated seniors, and the chronically ill and destitute.
MWS Girls' Residence is a residential home, housing vulnerable children and youths referred by the Ministry of Social and Family Development or other Social Service Organisations. We aim to create transformation and positive changes in behaviour through a holistic and therapeutic framework.
The Welfare Assistant staff will be working with female residents, between the age 15 to 21, (in an institutional facility). You will be part of the Operations team and are required to work in shifts.

- Able to establish appropriate and guiding relationships with residents and be good role models
- To be attentive and look into the well-being of residents by being available and accountable for their whereabouts when on duty
- To motivate and actively engage residents to a higher level of behavioral performance and development
- May run small group programs with residents
- To provide close supervision and maintain the residents' discipline in accordance with the daily programmes
- Ensure all records, documentations and correspondence are updated promptly and filed accordingly
- To participate actively and take ownership of any additional primary/secondary portfolios assigned
- Ensure the safety and security of premises
Qualifications, Competencies & Experience
- A heart to contribute to the wellbeing and development of troubled young females
- Keenness to learn and implement Trauma Informed Care (TIC) practice
- Minimum 4-5 years' work experience
- Advantageous to have experience working with youth and/or youth at-risk, though not compulsory
- Willingness to complete on-the-job training, work as a team and be supervised
- N/O levels or Diploma
- Willingness to adopt a flexible approach to manage a sometimes unpredictable workload
- This role is from Monday to Sunday (shift work) with one off day per week
- 1st shift: 7.15am to 3.15pm
- 2nd shift: 3pm to 11pm
- 3rd shift: 10.45pm to 7.15am
Due to the nature of the working environment, only female candidates would be considered.
