The National Arts Council seeks an Assistant Manager/Manager to work in its Performing Arts Department to provide support in the lead-up and execution of a key international platform for thought leadership and exchange of ideas for the global performing arts scene. This is a 9 months contract position.

(What you will be working on)

  • Work with Lead of Performing Arts (Special Projects) on the delivery of key project.

(What the role is)

You will contribute to NAC's mission to champion the creation and appreciation of the arts as an integral part of the lives of people in Singapore. The purpose of this role is to formulate strategies, develop and implement programmes and initiatives and administer NAC's support

schemes to create a strong ecosystem of companies, practitioners and intermediaries.

You will be involved in the development of the Performing Arts landscape in Singapore, with a focus on dance and traditional arts sectors. You will support the growth and development of performing arts (dance and/or traditional arts) professionals and organisations to create quality

(What you will be working on)

You will work with the Head of Department (Performing Arts & Incentive Policy) and Team Lead (Dance & Traditional Arts) to:

  • Formulate and implement strategies and initiatives to develop the dance and traditional arts sectors; monitor their progress and review outcomes and impact.
  • Tap on resources available to NAC and partners, including other government agencies, to achieve NAC's overall goals and outcomes for the sectors.
  • Cultivate strong networks with and engage stakeholders within the performing arts sector for the purposes of strategy and policy development.
  • Administer NAC's various assistance schemes, including grants, arts spaces, and other developmental platforms; assess grant applications; monitor and evaluate grant application outcomes.
  • Manage grant recipients (organisations and individuals) to support their development and ensure that funding outcomes are met and provide relevant and timely advice and support to dance and traditional arts companies and practitioners.
  • Review existing efforts in the internationalisation of the dance and traditional arts sectors and guide the team to support artists in their international projects to achieve NAC's strategic priority in this aspect.
  • Manage the distribution and utilisation of the team's budget, to ensure adherence to NAC's processes of governance and accountability.
  • Where assigned, undertake cross-department and/or cross-agency projects to achieve NAC's/WOG's strategic priorities.

(What we are looking for)

  • At least 2 years of relevant working experience.
  • Knowledge of a range of dance and/or traditional arts genres, including an understanding of the local and international dance and/or traditional arts sectors. Prior working experience in the dance and/or traditional arts sectors would be an advantage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to adapt to changing contexts.
  • Track record of working with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills such as empathy, persuasion, and negotiation.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, this individual will be responsible for promoting SOTA's performing arts venues and gallery as a venue of choice for performances and events. The individual will act as a liaison between hirers and in-house teams to ensure the School and hirers' venue hire, production and operation procedures and project needs are met and delivered in a safe and orderly working environment while upholding excellent service standards. A personable, detailed-oriented, dynamic and adaptable individual who meets deadlines and has strong administrative and operational skills is likely to succeed in this versatile and challenging role encompassing responsibilities of venue sales and production operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage venue bookings, public relations, and customer relationships, and provide for the needs of venue hirers and retail lessees to be met while adhering to SOTA's prevailing policies and procedures
  • Responsible for promoting SOTA's performing arts venues and gallery as a venue of choice for performances and events. This includes formulating and implementing strategies, policies and procedures and relevant matters to optimise utilisation, sales revenue, and progressive improvements to achieve the targets set
  • Handle hotline, email booking enquiries regarding venue specifications, capabilities of all performing arts venues and gallery, coordinate site visits and meetings, consolidate the necessary documentation and information for the events
  • Utilise the Event Business Management System (EBMS) to manage venue bookings, generate estimates, contracts, monthly/ quarterly reports. Reconcile ticket sales reports from hirers' appointed ticketing agents before finalising billing with the Office of Finance
  • Act as liaison between hirer's production team and OVM in-house teams
  • Serve as covering Production Assistant at the Back-of-House or Front-of-House when required, to coordinate and manage the operations of the venues to ensure that events are supported to excellent service standards
  • Engage in cross-functions duties within the department in managing events, retail management, advertising spaces, venue and production operations, project management
  • Support school-wide events and key activities
  • Adhere to SOTA's prevailing policies and procedures
  • Accept any other duties assigned by Reporting Officer or Management of the School

Job Requirements

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in sales/ customer relationship/ event/ production management; experience in the arts and entertainment industry, live performance management in performing arts venues preferred
  • Familiar with policies and procedures in performing arts venues; retail lease management will be an added advantage
  • Excellent customer relationship management, communication, and interpersonal skills, including strong organisational and report writing skills
  • Possess positive and motivated personality with good initiative, and pro-active with a high level of commitment to meet deadlines
  • Strong team player, meticulous, analytical and resourceful with the ability to work independently
