The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School's primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities.
We are currently recruiting a Senior Laboratory Animal Technician to join Animal Research Facility team at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine. The Animal Research Facility (ARF) is located in Novena, in the Clinical Research Building. The facility is licensed by the Animal and Veterinary Services at NParks, and houses mainly rodent species used for research purposes by the NTU scientific community. The Senior Laboratory Animal Technician role plays a vital role in ensuring health and well-being of laboratory animals while supporting cutting-edge research. You will be working alongside a team of dedicated lab animal technicians, veterinarians, engineers and administrative staff. Our teamwork approach ensures legal compliance and highest standards of animal care and welfare are fulfilled, as we support our researchers in achieving scientific excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Animal husbandry duties, to include daily animal welfare checks, environmental parameters checks, cage cleaning, washing and autoclaving, provision of food, water and enrichment items, reporting of animal welfare concerns and treatment of animals (as per veterinary advice), maintaining accurate records and performing weekly cage census.
- Specialist area duties, to include tasks relating to relevant expertise (e.g. work with germ free and gnotobiotic rodents, SPF rodent breeding, etc.)
- Maintenance of procedure rooms, to include managing all types of waste, including cytotoxic and ABSL2, managing specialized equipment housed in procedure rooms.
- Facility hygiene maintenance, to include cleaning of floors, managing laundry, topping-up consumables and keeping cage changing stations and biological safety cabinets in clean and good working condition.
- Assisting with provision of other facility services as directed, to include but not limited to animal shipments, staff training and participating to weekend/public holiday cover of routine animal welfare related duties.
Requirements:
- Strong commitment to animal welfare
- Experience in working with animals in research, veterinary, farm or zoo setting is desirable, but not essential
- Previous experience with rodents and non-human primates in laboratory/research setting would be a plus
- Attention to detail and excellent record keeping skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of laboratory safety and biosecurity protocols is desirable (training will be provided)
- ITE, diploma or equivalent, is required
- Additional coursework or certification in animal care, veterinary technology, or a related field is preferred

The Senior Assistant Manager / Manager will take on the role of a Post Approval Monitoring Officer to support the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The role is crucial for maintaining ethical practices in translational research and ensuring that all activities are aligned with established guidelines.
You will be responsible for conducting routine and ad-hoc post approval monitoring activities on a monthly basis to ensure that protocols are compliant and effective. You will monitor and report adverse events, track animal acquisition and use, and conduct regular inspection of research facilities. You will prepare reports on the post approval monitoring outcome and present your findings at IACUC meetings.
You will assist in administrative secretarial duties, including the collating of agenda as well as the taking of meeting minutes, and the development of an e-platform for IACUC. You will also need to maintain and track records for all IACUC protocols and ensure these records are updated whenever protocol amendments occur.
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Biomedical Science or related discipline with at least 6-8 years of relevant work experience
- Candidates with experience in post approval monitoring, regulatory compliance, or conducting both routine and ad-hoc monitoring activities are preferred
- Experience working in research laboratories, preferably with laboratory animals
- Highly motivated and independent individual with strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective and positive working relationship with diverse groups of people
