The role of a Technical Author
A Technical Author leads the documentation efforts of an engineering team, typically focused on a product or family of products. You'll help the team develop documentation that serves the needs of the product's users, embracing the principles of the Diátaxis documentation framework. You will have a broad impact on - and responsibility for - the quality of the user experience with the product, and will contribute towards the long-term success of the project itself.
These are not traditional technical writer roles. As a Technical Author, you will participate in development of product strategy. You will have input into product design and user experience. You will combine technical expertise with leadership in documentation, collaborating with colleagues across the company to establish documentation as a first-class engineering discipline. Even the most junior Technical Authors will have the opportunity to develop and demonstrate technical authority.
As well as your role in an engineering team, you will also be a part of Canonical's documentation practice team, that includes all the company's Technical Authors. Here, you'll be amongst other documentation experts, who collaborate to define documentation excellence and drive the development of documentation practice and theory, across the company and in the open-source software community.
Location: These are fully remote roles, open to candidates across the globe.
The role entails
- Create, maintain and improve software documentation
- Work with engineering team members, to help them make effective documentation contributions
- Influence the development of the product, as an expert user of the product, who has important opinions about its function and design
- Engage with user communities to ensure that our documentation meets their needs
- Encourage and support community engagement in and contribution to documentation
- Help standardise the structure, presentation, style and language of content across products
- Collaborate with documentation peers to advance the state of the art in documentation at Canonical
- Challenge and advance documentation understanding and best-practice, as part of a disciplinary team
- Cares deeply about functional written communication
- Is a technical writer with a programmer's mindset, or a programmer with a record of producing excellent documentation
- Has a record of community engagement, in open-source software, documentation, research or other disciplines
- Is sympathetic to the needs and challenges of open-source software and its communities
- Demonstrates technical curiosity, and is fascinated by software technology and its challenges
- Has demonstrable documentation skills, insight and enthusiasm
- Has experience of software development contexts; is familiar with: Linux, working on the command line, application deployment, system operations, and infrastructure management, Git, documentation markup languages
- Has excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Holds a BSc/BA degree or equivalent
- Is able to travel twice a year for up to two weeks for events

**Job Summary**
Generally, Technical Specialist provide technical expertise to support manufacturing in leading machine enhancement, managing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of machines, project execution, accountability on production waste and quality of all machine tools operations and the overall technician resource management in production.
The primary role of Technical Specialist is to take lead in the area of expertise assigned and coordinate activities between the production and projects.
**A. General Accountability**

What does the job consist?This role involves equipment maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, record keeping, documentation, and adherence to standard operating procedures, all aimed at ensuring smooth business operations within departmental guidelines and corporate policies. The position requires performing 12-hour shifts to support production activities and assist Engineers in equipment improvement activities.
12 hour shift ops support
- Perform scheduled equipment maintenance in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Repair and troubleshoot equipment according to the standard operating procedures and carry out corrective actions as per specifications.
- Troubleshoot and repair minor equipment problems and assist in major repairs and troubleshooting.
- Follow standard operating procedures and carry out corrective actions as per specifications.
- Propose improvements to standard operating procedures and explain them to ensure adherence by Technicians and below.
- Assist new Technicians with their On-The-Job Training (OJT).
- Maintain records of all shift-related events and activities.
- Provide accurate documentation of line issues and fill up and file the checklists.
- Propose improvements to standard operating procedures.
- Knowledge of the Fault Detection and Classification (FDC) system to monitor and analyze SPC charts.
- Minimize equipment downtime, improve equipment quality, reduce maintenance costs, and conform to compliance requirements and internal guidelines.
- Coordinate with operators to ensure efficient work to meet manufacturing and module objectives.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the production floor, sub FAB, and maintenance support areas.
Improvement activities and quality aspect
- Assist in cost reduction activities.
- Participate in improvement activities/projects to enhance productivity and quality of equipment/process.
- React to and anticipate possible quality issues.
- Perform preventive actions.
These activities aim to achieve cost efficiency, improve overall standards of work, and ensure the quality of products and services.
Requirements & qualificationsEducational Qualifications:
- Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Microelectronics Engineering.
Technical / Job Knowledge:
- Strong logical thinking capabilities and good analytical skills with a sense of ownership and accountability.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the semiconductor, electronics, or electrical industry working in a clean room environment.
- Preference for prior experience in the maintenance of Implant, RTP (Rapid Thermal Processing), PLA (Plasma), or Horizontal or Vertical Furnaces.

**Job Summary**
Generally, Technical Specialist provide technical expertise to support manufacturing in leading machine enhancement, managing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of machines, project execution, accountability on production waste and quality of all machine tools operations and the overall technician resource management in production.
The primary role of Technical Specialist is to take lead in the area of expertise assigned and coordinate activities between the production and projects.
**A. General Accountability**
+ Safety and ISO14001 Environmental accountability. Ensure a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly workplace by observing Company's rules and procedures. Active involvement in prevention, elimination of potential safety hazards and participation in activities which promotes recycling, replacement, and reduction of resource materials.
+ Safety & health accountability: Safety and health are important to BD, and we encourage the observance of all safety programs and training assigned to you. Such programs are to be attended in a timely manner to ensure that work tasks carried out are in accordance with our safety guidelines and SOPs.
+ Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) accountability. Observing GMP rules and procedures.
+ Apply SOP and/or SWI in daily operations.
+ Observe BD Code of Ethics
+ Reporting up on all incidents / accidents, near misses, deviations from plan and when required, to take part in further investigations.
+ Reporting up on all quality incidents, near misses, non-conformance from SOP, Specifications and when required, to take part in further investigations.
**B. Operation Tasks**
+ Lead / Contribute into departments activities that are needed in order to achieve goals set for the department e.g.
+ Perform training, coaching, and developing Technician / Production associates.
+ Manage documentation / administration works.
+ Write Standard Work Instruction / Procedure for assigned operation / process.
+ Support troubleshooting for machine / equipment failures to meet production targets and quality standards and/or
+ specifications.
+ Support product/machine changeover on the line by tool/die change and machine set-up.
+ Assist Engineers or Subject Matter Experts for any CI activities.
**C. Supporting Tasks**
+ Participate in the discussion and review of team's performance in the daily shift changeover meeting.
+ Participate in continuous improvement initiative / activities.
+ Perform any other tasks as assigned.
**Preferred Requirements**
?Education and Experience
+ Nitec/Higher Nitec or Diploma in Engineering field, preferably Electrical or Mechanical study.
+ Minimum 2 years of maintenance and troubleshooting experience in a manufacturing environment.
+ Candidate with injection molding experiences is a plus.

Job Responsibilities:
- Performing proper repairs of all unserviceable equipment for which he/she has been trained or assigned to perform and acting also as a technical resource in analysis of failures when required.
- Performing proper tests, repairs and or modifications in of unserviceable equipment in compliance with Thales Solutions Asia
- Quality programs as well as relevant procedures issued by Industrial Quality dept or the ARU Manager.
- Respecting the TAT target as given by the ARU Manager for all repair and/or modification activities.
- Maintenance and calibration of test means or equipment whenever necessary with the support of M&T dept.
- Maintaining an up to date knowledge of the product worked on with relevant technical documentation like SBs, SILs, TIs and updates of the CMM.
- Ensures the On-Time delivery of repairs and Quality of repairs
Contributes to continuous improvement actions
Job Requirements:
- Higher Nitec/Diploma in Electronics Engineering
- Able to perform Level 3 component rework/repair/modifications of electronic PCBAs in accordance with approved technical data
- Ability to use basic and advanced BGA rework equipment and perform adjustments as necessary.
- Capable of performing rework operations in support of BGA (Ball Grid Array) repair/replacement on densely populated multi-layered circuit boards.
- Familiar with Surface-Mount (SMT) and Through-Hole Technology.
- Ability to identify component packages and values.
- Experienced in lead and lead-free solder repair of surface mount and micro commercial electronics to component level.
- Certification in IPC-610 and IPC-7711/7721 standards is an added advantage
