As a Ship Broker, you will play a crucial role in maximising vessel profitability by fixing spot cargoes and allocating contract cargoes efficiently. You'll work closely with clients, chartering, and operations teams to build optimised voyage programs that meet both commercial and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Secure spot cargoes across assigned routes and allocate contract cargoes to available tonnage, ensuring optimal vessel utilisation and commercial returns
- Liaise with COA (Contract of Affreightment) customers to obtain nominations and align schedules with vessel availability
- Work closely with chartering and operations teams to optimise cargo space, reduce port calls, and ensure overall voyage profitability
- Maintain accurate voyage records and ensure timely submission of documentation related to cargoes and loading activities
- Foster strong relationships with existing and prospective customers, representing the company's services and solutions at all levels
- Stay up to date on market trends and identify commercial opportunities. Provide actionable insights and recommendations to management
- Review and negotiate charter party terms, ensuring fixtures are aligned with operational and legal standards
- Prepare voyage profit/loss statements and post-fixture travel reports. Ensure charter party obligations are fulfilled
- Manage all aspects of transhipment for designated cargoes, including documentation and scheduling
- Approve the release of Bills of Lading when required before freight collection, per company policies
- Contribute to internal projects or initiatives as assigned by management, including cross-divisional commercial support where applicable
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in tanker chartering, shipbroking, or commercial operations (liquid bulk preferred), or a minimum of 1 year in a shipbroker assistant role
- Bachelor's degree required; a background in maritime studies or shipping preferred
- Familiarity with standard charter party forms and terms
- Understanding of voyage planning, cargo allocation, and profit optimization in the shipping context
- Hands-on experience with shipping operations or in-house commercial training is an advantage
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and commercial shipping software tools
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
- Willingness to handle ad hoc assignments and represent the company in client-facing engagements
