The Public Policy (APAC) Senior Manager will join the GS1 Global Public Policy team and collaborate daily with GS1 offices and colleagues in Asia-Pacific. The position will have accountability for the execution of public policy activities that advance the GS1 Global public policy strategy and GS1 Asia-Pacific regional priorities. Responsibilities include engaging with regulators, intergovernmental organisations, industry associations, and other stakeholders, while also working closely with GS1 offices in approximately 20 markets.

The position requires extensive experience in the regulatory and public policy environment within Asia-Pacific and aims to promote understanding of global standards and regulatory harmonisation among key stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Expand regional public policy engagement through strategic engagements with stakeholders

Education/experience

  • Sector-specific experience in food, retail, e-commerce, supply chain logistics, sustainability or working in government and a thorough understanding of how trade associations and chambers of commerce function.
  • Experience from APEC, ASEAN or regional/global intergovernmental organisations or government agencies and functioning in key Asian Pacific markets (e.g., experience from Australia, Japan, India, China, Indonesia) is highly appreciated.

Skills

  • Must be fluent in English, oral and written; knowledge of major Asian language is beneficial.

Key job responsibilities
This role will support advocacy and outreach to policymakers for Project Kuiper, Amazon's initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
The Manager will work closely with cross-functional Kuiper teams including Regulatory, Business, and Legal teams. They will manage senior policymaker engagement to support Kuiper's country entry and business needs across Southeast Asia, including defining strategy, executing advocacy campaigns, and representing the company with policymakers, consultants, and trade associations. The Manager will also be able to immediately and directly enhance Amazon's advocacy on a broad range of telecoms and space-related policy issues.
Basic Qualifications

This role will involve analyzing regulatory requirements and adversarial behavior, and coordinating with local and global policy teams to support engagements with regulators, researchers, and industry partners to share information and build partnerships in support of our work.

Security Policy Manager Responsibilities

Work with policy, legal, investigative, and product teams to analyze emerging policy, active regulations, litigation, and public concerns related to adversarial behavior. Partner with global product organizations to support the design of systems to control and mitigate those risks - including identity verification systems.

Review adversarial behaviors and trends of abuse across APAC markets and user communities, and help investigators, policy teams, and product organizations better understand the tactics used in a variety of harms and abuses, including scams, frauds, inauthentic behavior, spam, etc.

Partner with policy, marketing, communications, legal, and partnerships teams as a security subject matter expert, working to respond to regulatory inquiries, advance our strategic partnerships with governments, and improve our relationships with regulators, industry partners, researchers, and users.

Provide analysis of existing controls’ effectiveness and work with internal partners to design and evaluate new metrics for understanding the risks facing our users and systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in Computer Science, a law degree, or equivalent experience.

8+ years of relevant cybersecurity and policy experience

Experience in information security at technology companies and/or in government

Demonstrated experience working between technical and non-technical teams

Experience communicating complex technical/security issues to non-technical audiences

Understanding of the global cybersecurity standards and regulatory environment

The One Legal team at Equinix is seeking a Director , Public Policy and Government Affairs , in our APAC (Asia-Pacific) region . This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to develop and implement strategies to influence public policy by s trengthen ing our en gagement with both our internal stakeholders and policy makers in the region . The role will require interaction with policy leaders , government officials , and others , and advocacy for the Company’s policy po sitions to promote the growth of the business in the r egion.

R esponsibilities

The successful candidate will provide leadership in the following key areas:

Internal engagement

  • Lead public policy strategy development with the Company's executives . Assemble and coordinate internal cross-functional teams in APAC and globall y to effectively respond to challenges and opportunities for the Company.

  • Identify emerging public policy issues related to the Company’s mid- and long-term business plans and develop internal and external policy positions and strategies to influence the external landscape and advance the Company’s business priorities.

  • Participate in the development of the Company’s strategic public policy agenda through regular meetings and ongoing communications with the Company’s senior leadership, including our Asia Pacific leadership team, and the regional president .

  • Develop strong working relationships with the Company’s country Managing Directors (MDs) across the region . Engage, support, and partner with the MDs on policy issue development, messaging, trade association and coalition relationships, and policy maker engagement . Assure consistency of messaging and policy positioning across the entire region.

  • Develop strong working relationships with the Company’s global and regional functions on Sustainability, Legal , Operations, Communications, Corporate Development and other s in order to assure cross-functional alignment and leverage.

  • Contribute to internal processes for handling public policy matters that arise on an emergency or unexpected basis so that the Company is prepared to respond in such cases.

External Engagement

  • Help manage day-to-day portfolio of the Company’s public policy agenda at various levels of government and in various regions where the Company maintains a physical presence and where the Company does business .

  • Participate in , lead, and advocate for public policy coalitions and trade associations aligned with the Company’s public policy agenda . S erve as a key point of contact for the C ompany’s participation and/or support the participation of Company senior executives in tho se organizations .

  • Develop working relationships with key policy makers and regulators and their staffs to effectively advocate the Company’s public policy agenda .

  • Identify , develop and execute on opportunities for the Company’s leadership to take prominent roles in the policy making process and facilitate their relationships with key, high-level external stakeholders.

  • Participate in government public consultation exercises and work on public policy submissions (including those on regulatory initiatives and/or developments) directly with governments or via public policy coalitions and trade associations .

Education and Training

  • Develop internal resources to educate employees about the C ompany’s public policy agenda.

  • Work with the C ompany’s Strategy and Communications team and others to develop a robust set of materials (including positioning statements, white papers, Q&A documents and presentations that:

  • Educate policymakers about the C ompany’s business objectives , its importance to the foundational operations of the Internet, and its plans for future growth.

  • Position the C ompany as a thought leader on centr al issues of importance to the C ompany.

  • Emphasize the positive economic and cultural benefits of the Company’s global growth.

  • Promote the Company’s commitment to sustainable growth and advocate for the opportunities digital transformation and the move to cloud and colocation have for efficiency .

  • Promote the Company’s commitment to develop an incl usive , empowered, and effective workforce in order to address the needs of our communities .

Qualifications

  • 12+ years of experience in government relations or public policy positions ; prior service in the government relations or public policy team of a Tech company or government legislative/regulatory bodies a plus .

  • Bachelor’s degree; l aw or master’s d egree a plus .

  • Exposure to policy issues in the areas of: Technology and the Internet; Energy/power development and delivery, including power infrastructure; AI , c ybersecurity , data sovereignty and d ata p rivacy ; E nvironment , s ustainability , c ircular e conomy policies, principles and corporate frameworks ; Government procurement policy ; and National and local Tax Policy .

  • Demonstrated high level of integrity, thoroughness, flexibility, initiative and teamwork .

  • Excellent written and oral and interpersonal communication skills .

  • Excellent judgment .

  • Expectation for regular travel within the region to locations where Equinix has a presence .
