Deputy Manager, Technical Maintenance and Repair
to join our Logistics team at Pacific International Lines (PIL). This role plays a critical role in defining the global technical specifications for PIL container fleet, synthesizing industry standards with best market practices. You will conduct on‐site audits to ensure technical capabilities, repair quality and standards are all compliant with PIL safety and operational protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Container Specification & Standards Development. Architect and define the global technical specification for PIL's 600,000 TEU container fleet, synthesizing industry standards (e.g., ISO, IICL, CSC), market benchmarking (of competitors specification), and innovative materials science (different materials for container parts, i.e. wood, bamboo, nylon, steel, composite options, etc.) to enhance durability, longevity, and operational efficiency.
Advanced Quality Assurance & Newbuilding Governance. Lead comprehensive on‐site new‐building inspections, employ sophisticated quality control methodologies (e.g., manage & deploy specialist inspectors, lab‐testing of material specimens, gauges to determine paint thickness and zinc contents, measurement of container dimension tolerance, load testing to ensure safety rating, etc.) validate conformance with PIL's engineered specifications and mitigate future lifecycle costs.
Global Repair Management & Cost Engineering. Implement a globally consistent process for managing Maintenance and Repair (M&R) costs. This includes the forensic verification of repair estimates (e.g. review common repair items, estimates accuracy, repair quality, man‐hour check, tariff check, material cost, material quality, etc.) from global offices to ensure accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
Remote Operational Vendor Management. Provide expert remote guidance and oversight to Regional Offices (RO) and frontline teams on complex repair activities, ensuring global standards are upheld.
Conduct rigorous on‐site audits of container depots and related facilities to vet their technical capabilities, repair quality, and compliance with PIL's safety and operational protocols.
Must Have
Degree in relevant disciplines such as Engineering
Minimum 5‐7 years of relevant expertise in container engineering and manufacturing, and conducting depot inspection, repair or container factories
Experience in container technical, inspection and repair standards, i.e. IICL, UCIRIC, ISO, CSC etc
Well versed in cost management and analytics
