The Senior Copper Trader is responsible for leading and managing the company’s copper and non-ferrous metals trading operations in Singapore, covering client management, trade execution, market analysis, and risk control. Key Responsibilities
- Client Management and Trade Execution
A. Oversee the foreign trade business of bulk commodities such as copper and cobalt for key clients, including communication, cargo scheduling, pricing transactions, and downstream sales, ensuring efficient execution.
B. Provide customized trading solutions to enhance client satisfaction and business profitability. - Market Research and Opportunity Development
A. Conduct in-depth analysis of copper price drivers, including:
Fundamental Supply-Demand: Track global mine production, inventory levels, and demand changes from industrial and electric vehicle sectors.
Macro Liquidity and USD Trends: Monitor global economic indicators (e.g., GDP, industrial production), interest rates, and USD exchange rate fluctuations.
Speculative Forces: Analyze speculative behavior and futures dynamics in markets such as LME and SHFE.
Long-Term Structural Trends: Evaluate the long-term impact of green energy, electric vehicles, and AI data centers on copper demand.
B. Identify and develop new business opportunities, assess profitability, and formulate trading strategies to optimize market competitiveness.
- Relationship Management and Dispute Resolution
A. Build and maintain relationships with global suppliers, clients, and industry participants, engage in business negotiations, and resolve trade disputes.
B. Leverage Singapore’s trade hub advantages to expand networks in Asia-Pacific and global markets. - Market Monitoring and Risk Management
A. Monitor copper prices, freight costs, exchange rates, and supply-demand data in real-time, developing hedging strategies to mitigate price, currency, and supply chain risks.

Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in Finance, Economics, International Trade, or Metallurgical Engineering.
Over 1 year of experience in copper or non-ferrous metals trading, with familiarity in LME, SHFE, and pricing mechanisms.
Strong research skills, proficient in analyzing supply-demand, macroeconomic trends, speculative forces, and structural trends; proficiency in tools like Excel and Python is preferred.
Fluent in English; proficiency in Mandarin or other Asian languages is a plus.
Knowledge of Singapore’s trade environment and international regulations, with strong cross-cultural communication and negotiation skills.
Strong leadership, an exploratory mindset, and the ability to execute in a fast-paced environment.
Work Location
Singapore (occasional travel to Asia-Pacific or other international markets may be required based on business needs).

Job Description :
This is a key role in the provision of copper market intelligence that drives commercial decision making by capturing insights, utilising data and information gathered from the industry or service providers. Analysis and forecasting of industry/sector trends and market outlook, identifying opportunities and threats, with the objective of promoting views and ideas to support the origination, trading and sales teams, executive management in Anglo American Marketing and the wider organisation.
Market Intelligence plays a central role in assessing how to capitalise on commercial opportunities through sound analysis and forecasting of commodity markets and successful interactions with relevant internal and external stakeholders.

- Responsible for the build out of price and statistical forecasting models to identify opportunities for various commercial variables e.g. TC/RCs, Cathode Premia, Arbitrage differentials.
- Act as a key interface with external market analysts, and data & research providers to uncover intelligence used to advise the Copper Marketing Team. A major focus will relate to Base Metals strategy development and identification of sourcing and origination opportunities in a systematic and disciplined process. Generating networks (industry connections, service providers, customers etc.).
- Conduct monthly and quarterly market analysis used as an input to the quarterly market forecasts, weekly reports, daily internal notes and ad hoc reports and internal studies. Demonstrating independent management of these processes and tasks. Generating topical reports based on personal initiative and observations. Communicating and presenting the results.
- Supply chain and cost curve analysis.
- Track and forecast key demand drivers across end-use sectors (e.g., energy transition, EVs, infrastructure) and evaluate implications for copper consumption and pricing
- Support the identification and assessment of third-party trading and sourcing & origination targets. Track and contribute to successful interactions and negotiations.
- Providing in-depth sector analysis to assist with customer discovery and strategic initiatives, supplemented by site visits where appropriate. Involvement in planning and leading visits to gain ‘on the ground’ insights.

Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Develop key relationships across the Copper value chain, covering copper producers and consumers, downstream material producers, traders and banks
What we’re looking for
- Knowledge of commodity markets (previous copper, molybdenum and nickel experience preferred) and ability to build an industry network.
- Able to marry macro-economic context with micro-market analysis to identify the most important drivers of price and commercial variables over short- and medium-term horizons.
- Knowledge and ability to distil complex market data into succinct reports and presentations.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current quantitative and qualitative marketing research methodologies.
- Familiarity with broad scanning techniques to interpret trends, research competitor activity and market conditions; develops and implements solutions to realise market potential and optimise opportunities for the Marketing Business Unit.
- High degree of numerical capability, as required, including ‘technical analysis’. Highly developed modelling capabilities.
- Strong computer literacy (especially Excel).
