As ED Innovation, you will develop, lead and grow the intellectual property substrate within A*STAR and the wider research ecosystem in Singapore to catalyze biotech newco creation opportunities. As these new biotech companies are formed, you will also build infrastructure to enable the companies to execute on their business plans and sustain a globally competitive edge. You will engage across biomedical and science and engineering disciplines at A*STAR Research Institutes, Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs), public agencies, corporates, and start-ups as well as international research partners.
Responsibilities:
- Work with Innovation & Enterprise colleagues to venture build biotech opportunities for Singapore.
- Build infrastructure that accelerate the biotech newco start-ups and lend them a globally competitive edge.
- Conduct outreach to local and global stakeholders (eg leading academics or industry members) to gather insights and sensing on emerging technologies and market opportunities that enable you to build mid to long-term biotech strategies.
- Provide overall strategic leadership on research directions and priorities to achieve A*STAR's mission and goals across our research institutes
- Develop thought leadership in the research topics under your charge
- Facilitate engagements with government agencies across the Research, Innovation & Enterprise Ecosystem to coordinate on national impactful R&D efforts
- Forge productive collaborations with local and global industry and academic partners, alongside other public agencies.
- Lead a larger team, provide coaching and training. Attract, recruit and oversee key talent development efforts for A*STAR.
- Degree in science and engineering from a reputable university. Candidate with PhD/doctorate qualification would be preferred although not a must.
- 10-15 years of proven experience in creating and carrying out successful programmes and plans to solve complex problems; preferably with translational research experience or relevant innovation experience as a Programme Lead/Director or an equivalent role. Candidates with commercial experience would be preferred although not a must.
- Strong executive presence with ability to ensure value capture for Singapore, mitigate programme risks and drive accountability among different stakeholders.
- Comfortable to work in a wider matrix structure with the ability to exert influence at multiple levels across the organisation with strong collaboration and persuasion skills, gaining support and trust across the various levels to achieve agreed organisational outcomes.
- Intellectually curious and ability to understand technical/scientific fundamental concepts and translate them to implementable programmes, with cost-benefit assessments and identify cross-functional dependencies and synergies.
- Outstanding track record in managing multiple programs and partnerships.
- Ability to guide the translation of research findings into economic, health and societal outcomes.
- Prior experience in cross-disciplinary team management will be essential. Familiarity with public service work would be of advantage.
- Possess excellent international and interpersonal communication and influencing skills for internal and external relationship-building and collaborations.
